"What the heck is going on?!"
*You are finally understanding me, human* Callisto mindspeaks to me.
"I have a name," I insist.
*Fine, Angela,* she says. "Now feed me before I explain anymore."
"You just ate two hours ago?" I complain, crossing my arms over my chest defiantly.
*Oh, please,* she laughs. *You could never say 'No' to me before. What makes you think I can't bend you to my will now?"
"I fed you out of love," I complain. Am I really arguing with my cat?
*Yes, you are," she says. "Though I am hardly yours. Or Vanessa's.*
"I suppose that's true," I say. Then realize I've walked out of the server room and back toward ship's stores. A can of tuna is in my hand. "How did we get here?"
*Demonstration of my power,* the tabby says. *I placed the subconscious directive into your mind.*
"Or maybe I'm confused?" I look down. There are six open cans of tuna. I am definitely confused!
*Or you are ignoring the obvious,* she points out. *That I am a superior intelligence.*
"You said you would explain,* I insist.
*I'm not done yet* she says, licking the contents of the sixth can clean. *I need a few dozen more.*
"Now, wait just a minute - " I object.
*Now* she commands. And my mind is helpless to resist her... control? A distant part of my mind objects to opening up forty cans of tuna but that part of my mind is locked up, impotent. As I open up can after can of tuna to the dellight of my feline friend.
