Description
First thing that I want to say is that this is a painting done completely on photoshop. Some people have been mistaking my work for 3D sculptures and I honestly find that flattering, but the problem is that I'm only getting job offers for 3D work and I don't know how to use 3D softwares at all! I'm already struggling to find work as it is and then when someone do offer me a job is because they thought I was a 3D artist... So I'm adding this little disclaimer here to try and see if it helps me in some way. At the very least it will help people know that my work is all 2D.Beauty is a very subjective thing. What pleases one may bring repulse to another, is all in the eye of the beholder. That is why it is so impressive when a beauty such as this emerges, something everyone and anyone can agree on. Aphrodite incarnate, poetry in the flesh. Blessed are we to be born with eyes able to see such miracle.

I sympathize. Β A lot of my art was being mistaken for 3D renders as well. Β For my part, I began putting a technical blurb in the comments of each art piece, for example:
"Created in PhotoShop, using X tools.
"Creation time: X hours
"Notation of references, external brushes, etc."
I've found that a few lines on each picture have clarified any confusion. Perhaps it will do the same for you.

Great work. If your patient, I'm sure a few 2D artistic works of the same character, from different perspectives, will eventually be good enough for automatic 3D computer character generation. william

I love this! I've just looked through your work, and there are a lot of fantastic ones in there. But this one also kind of hit me as a "typical DA model post", just all wrong. So wrong it's right, I mean

The real question is: why not?

fair enough.
for one, it's...
now, I don't believe myself to be a good person exactly, but one thing I know for sure is that I'd not startle people with things gross as heck itself, the one trick you seem to be pulling over and over with folks (at least one guy!) for now if not years on end. that being said, you aren't giving off a sinister vibe and are overall more or less subtle about your thoughts, as far as I'm concerned; cannot help but wonder - what is it that makes you do what you do? at least when it comes to works such as this one, that is.
...really not pleasant; invokes gut feelings, for a brief moment may make one wonder about the creator's sanity, so on and so forth.
and then there are your less shocking paintings. the annotation or what-do-you-call-it, of course, plays quite the role in perceiving them; and so far you haven't failed to throw in proper atmosphere with the writing, as far as I'm concerned. sure enough, they are all strange rather... but the question remains: why the generously sprinkled repulsiveness in pieces such as this? is it the test of skill to see how strongly would one react? is it genuine fascination that lets push aside the natural response to the uncanny, or is it utilizing the fact that you, perhaps, lack such a response?
...plain strange; the gallery of such a talented artist is full of generally unfriendly visions...
and I ran out of juice to formulate things with "finesse", so: do you find beauty in these things or something?

Yes, yes I do.
That is pretty much the gist of it, but let me elaborate it a little bit better:
I've always been fascinated by ideas, philosophy and simply overthinking everything. So, a long time ago, in one of my fits of craziness thinking about why we like what we like and how much the feeling of disgust is shaped by the people we grew up with I kinda stumbled upon a very interesting school of thought by a religious group from India named Aghori (I've also seen it written as Aghora, but I don't know which is the proper way to spell it). At first glance the Aghori just seem completely crazy, judging by our standards, they have rituals involving meditating on top a dead body retrieved from the Ganges, they sometimes eat the flesh of these dead bodies, every Aghori needs to have a human skull which will be the tool they channel their energy through and many other ceremonies and rituals involving all sorts of bodily fluids, secretions and discharges that you can imagine. To most people this sounds completely repulsive, almost "unholy" one would say. All of these behaviors go directly against what most people consider sacred, sane, sanitary, the opposite of what one would expect of a holy man and yet that is exactly where they find their strongest connection with their belief and deities. I saw an interview with one Aghori who explained that in their view everything is part of the sacred creation and therefore everything is good. They are against the notion of opposites and through all of these unsettling rituals they seek unity, to see beauty in the dirtiest of things, to reach enlightenment by ridding oneself of all illusions of dirty and clean. And I simply find that amazing. To achieve the same goal everyone aspire for by going in the exact opposite direction, I think that is beautiful. I'm not a religious person and I'm definitely not an Aghori, but I honestly admire this philosophy and as an artist I decided to search for beauty in all of its forms. I believe that in a way we all do it, take for example a good body horror movie like "The Thing" or "The Fly", it is a way through which we take pleasure and enjoy truly disturbing images and ideas and even though we are not completely free of repulse and disgust we can still enjoy this experience. Long story short, I find this topic beautiful and anything that I think is beautiful I want to paint or add to a painting. But please don't feel forced to share my point of view, if this is unsettling to you then let it be unsettling. Be true to your heart. I can't control how you feel by seeing one of my paintings nor would I want to. It is my sincere desire that you take from this whatever you want and reach your own conclusions.
I hope this has shed some light into my weird thoughts and points of views and thank you very much for asking!
