Sooo asked me about making comic panels, but i'm terrible at explaining things so I made a tutorial! I hope it's not hard to follow??? Hope it helps you Chroly (and other people who are drawing comics!)!!helpful comment on panel advice:
Nice tutorial! I do a lot of the same things as you do. Especially the planning out stage! Sometimes with other forms of art you can wing it, but a comic needs a lot of planning to be done effectively.
As for your part about keeping it from being confusing, I agree to an extent, but respectfully disagree on all the diagonal panels and such. I think it largely depends on the tone you're trying to set with your comic story. Solid, predictable square and rectangular panels are good for calm scenes, confident moments, etc--things were major action is not going on and the characters are not feeling threatened, confused, etc.
However, I find for action scenes, dynamic moments, or moments when the characters are supposed to be unsettled or confused, adding odd panel shapes can add to the feel of movement, action, dynamic posing, or confusion, which in turn passes that along to the reader. Basically, they can be useful, if utilized properly. But they shouldn't be all over the place, either. I'm still practicing getting the gist of using these, myself.
Comics at the end belong to their respected authors/artists. Here's some links if you wanna check them out:

Thank you!!!
Yeah, and you're right about that! It completely phased me about action scenes and dynamic moments. Like you said, those kinds of panels can be useful if utilized properly. (I've actually always used them very terribly, which is probably why I didn't touch on it. X'D) But thanks for the insight! Do you mind if I put your comment in the description?

No prob! And yeah, I myself am still getting the hang of when to use them, it seems to be mostly a matter of practice, trial and error
Feel free to use my comment in the description, I don't mind

Thanks for the tips. I'm always stumped at panelling. For some reason I worry that making the panels just plain straight boxes makes the composition look boring
