"You never got the chance to use a Seventeen-em during the War, did you? Ah those were the days. Everything you needed in one kit. Blaster, Anti-Armor, Scorch liked that one. Sniper was my favorite. Gave us a PEP attachment for high civvie areas, and a breach-charge launcher later on. Got me through forty years alone in the Kashyyyk Jungles. If the whole GAR had these beauties, we'd have licked the clankers at Geonosis then and there." - RC-1207 "Sev" reminiscing on the DC-17m.
The DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System represented a breakthrough in blaster technology. The DC-17m was designed as a single universal stock and grip that could be rapidly fitted out with a series of detachable and interchangeable weapons loadouts. The weapons were introduced at least five years before the Clone Wars, giving the Clone Commandos that would go on to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic the opportunity to train with these weapons. The Commandos made excellent use of the DC-17m throughout the Clone Wars, using them to great effect in their missions against the Separatists. After the Clone Wars, the Empire would continue using the DC-17m for their elite forces, even granting them to the newer Imperial Storm Commandos that gradually replaced the older Clone Commandos. By the age of the New Republic, the DC-17m has fallen out of service, being replaced by the DH-20m Interchangeable Weapon System which, for all intents and purposes, is the same as the DC-17m only with newer and more advanced with a few improvements such as larger clip capacity for the blaster and sniper attachments and the addition of a scatter blaster attachment. It's not uncommon for New Republic Commandos to use both DC-17m and DH-20m rifles. The 501st Legion continues to use the DC-17m exclusively with their next-generation Clone Commandos.
The DC-17m is designed for fast conversion from one weapon type to another using different clips and attachments. The first and default attachment that comes standard with the base, is the blaster attachment (Shown above, top). The blaster attachment could rapidly fire up to sixty rounds of ion pulsed bolts of plasma before having to eject the spent power pack or "clip" and be reloaded with a fresh one. Most Clone Commandos could carry five packs, including the one in the weapon itself, allowing them three hundred shots before running out of charges. The Commando's Katarn Armor field packs were also equipped with a power distributor. The distributor allowed the Commando to partially spend several clips and, while these partially spent clips were stored in the field pack, the distributor would "balance" out the power in these clips so that as many of the clips as possible were full, leaving only one clip with the shortage in power. The Distributor also applies to the sniper attachment. With the distributor installed, the rifle base is able to display the total ammo count, giving the Commandos greater management ability of their ammo.
The Sniper Attachment (Above, middle), added a long barreled sniper attachment. Unlike the Blaster attachment, the Sniper attachment fired small metallic bolts known as quarrels that were ionically charged before being fired through the barrel, firing with incredible force. The Sniper Attachment features a built in 10x and 20x zoom feature, a feature further enhanced by using the built-in uplink sensor for helmets equipped with Heads-Up Displays. Like the Blaster attachment, the Katarn Armor's Field Pack is equipped with a "distributor" that allows the ammo in the clips to be redistributed out so that the ammo is distributed to fill as many clips as possible, leaving as few as one clip with one round or more missing. Most Commandos could carry four clips for a total of twenty rounds. The ammo counts of the sniper mode are similarly displayed on the side of the blaster's stock.
The Anti-Armor Attachment (Above, bottom) is a single-round dumb-fire grenade launcher capable of punching holes through most armor. The average commando carried only four anti-armor grenades in their packs but some Commandos would prefer to carry more grenades.
The Pulsed Energy Projectile or PEP Attachment (Not shown), was designed for use in areas with heavy civilian populations and was given out on a case by case basis. The PEP was a non-lethal weapon designed for dealing with riots and crowd control, and fired what amounted to a blinding concussive blast to those hit by it. The blasts were enough to knock people off their feet and temporarily blind them while inflicting significant but temporary pain in an effort to pacify and stun enemies.
The final attachment was the Rapid Entry Breaching Grenade Attachment, also known as the Breaching Attachment (Not shown). The Breaching Grenade was similar to the Anti-Armor attachment but was a more niche weapon. Capable of firing a grenade onto a sealed door or hatch and blow it clean off from a safe distance. Many Commandos balked at the attachment, viewing it as an insult to their training. The attachment was hardly used during the Clone Wars (it was released late into the war), but during the Empire, Imperial Commandos would make use of it to relatively great effect.

Kind of reminds me of the SC-20K from the splinter cell series used by Sam Fisher. More precisely: Chaos Theory.

Republic Commando still is the best Star Wars game, remarkably similar to the Metroid Prime Trilogy

While I do love Republic Commando, I don't think it's the best Star Wars game. It's up there, for sure. And I can kinda see the similarities to Metroid Prime.
