The ancient cultures - those who lived and died by nature's whims for thousands of years - called him by many names.
Generally it was some local dialect for "He that is the Earth" or "God of Stones and Bones" or simply "The Horned One."
These days of the internet and climate change and the knowledge of all humankind at our fingertips actually made it even harder to separate truth from myth.
Lo and behold, there was no real separation.
He'd always been. He would be again.
Somehow the insignificant meandering and meddling of mankind had led us away from him. The unexpected toll - mostly unexpected by him - was that mankind moved themselves further and further from his grasp and influence and in so doing, bound him.
Alone and angry, forgotten and unforgiving, he was chained by lack of interest and disbelief.
Then some well-meaning...and perhaps woefully misguided...researchers took it upon themselves to seek him out. Now they've found him. Now they'll gather at his massive throne and conduct the ancient ceremony to awaken him.
They don't exactly expect him to be merciful and forgiving to the festering plague of humanity that has perverted his realm, but they hope that he'll show some measure of gratitude to the ones that have freed him.
