This is exquisite in it's pain. A sort of negative ecstasy. The use of the cloth is definitely reminiscent of the renaissance depictions of martyrs and victims, such as Christ or Socrates.
This is the part of the "realism" from Russian artistic traditions I like to see. Bringing a realistic depiction to the fantastic or otherworldly. It is neither "here" nor there in being too abstract from actual geometric figures and shapes... but, is neither too grounded in reality to not imagine a sapient feline. It's simple, but great.
