There's a book (can't remember it's name right now, sorry) that states that Cadance was a pegasus that ascended to an alicorn. The signs of this being canon within the show are, so far, none at all. However, that doesn't stop everybody at this site to demand that pre-show pictures of Cadance have her as a pegasus.
