Description So yeah, this weekend I ended up watching Madoka.

The text here is from Preacher’s Kid by Jim Manley - we had it in a church songbook at my house when I was little; I’ve looked and I can’t find a recording so you’ll have to take my word for it I guess. I always liked it - it was a silly song, but it spoke to that social isolation and pressure to be perfect that a lot of PKs feel, when you’ve got not only your own little-kid-looking-up-to-their-parent thing but also the general culture of the community indicating that your parent is a source of wisdom, I guess? Until you hit a point where that kind of dries up, and…

Well, most of us don’t go the “become a magical girl to make people listen” route, but I guess I kind of identified with Kyoko in that I know what it’s like to watch a congregation, and with it the major source of our family’s livelihood, drift away in spite of my dad’s best efforts? It’s not a good feeling.
