In the story I am putting together, the Confederation fosters potential members. Earth is no different. In the fostering process, various Confederation races volunteer to become the potential member's sponsors, preparing that race for membership, at first, in secret, and then working in a limited capacity with members of that race to whom they have revealed themselves, until the point where first contact can officially be made, and then assist them in acclimation to the greater galaxy.
The races that will foster humanity are (counterclockwise from right): the E'jasi, the Gron, and the Athling. The E'jasi are best at relating to humanity and because of their unisex nature, giving humanity a taste of the differences they will encounter among the Confederation. The Gron are sociologists and anthropologists, who specialize in analyzing trouble areas in international and interpersonal relations among humans, and the Athlig excel at providing technologies that serve to hide them in the initial phases, and subtly introduce genetic breeding into humans for useful attributes that will aid in their viability in the greater galaxy, sometimes with less than ethical practice, but always with benevolent intent.
