Description "Alan," I said, panicked, "there's something wrong!"
"What?" he replied slowly - puzzled, yet contemptuous. "They've hardly even started yet. And they're all the way over there. How can you see if something's wrong?"
"I can't see, I just know! There's something that's gonna stop them from doing even the very first part of the plan."
"You're just being paranoid!" he said, and waved his hand at me dismissively.
As soon as he had said this, we heard a whirring sound coming form the theme park entrace. We looked across, to see the security gates next to the entrance sliding open. Through them came two electric security buggies, with two security guards riding on each.
I looked at Alan.
"And?" he said "It's a theme park with lots of people in! They're going to have SOME security guards!"
I decided not to argue. Maybe I WAS just being paranoid.

We stayed there in silence for several minutes, both looking out for signs, good or bad, of the gang's progress. It had been fifteen minutes or so since they had left the gift shop.
"They should have finished the first part by now - it shouldn't have taken very long" I thought. "Maybe they didn't run into any difficulty after all."

Suddenly we heard a scream of terror a few hundred metres down the path. I squinted my eyes, and saw it was a brown-haired girl running straight in our direction.
"That's not one of the gang, is it?" asked Alan
"No," I replied, "Too young". We only had two girls in the gang, and this girl looked a year or two younger than either of them. "She must have just been scared by a ride or something."
We both relaxed - still no news of the plan. And no news, they say, is good news.
We carried on looking out for signs of the plan progressing.

The girl screamed again, even louder - a horrible, ear-piercing scream. I looked back across. A security guard had jumped on her and was trying, unsuccessfully, to pin her to the ground. They struggled violently for a few seconds, then another security guard appeared, and started hitting her with a truncheon. She gave up and went limp, and the security guard stopped hitting her.
"I didn't know the security guards here carried truncheons!" commented Alan.
"They don't" I said. "Or, at least, they didn't use to."

In my studies of the park's security measures, I had found out that they had once previously thought of arming security guards with truncheons, but on furthur reasearch had found them unsuitable. They had decided, very conclusively, that pure muscle was the best way. This was a little worrying as we had not anticipated it, but not too worrying as we had planned ways to avoid meeting any security guards. I just wondered if anything else had unexpectedly changed that might put the entire plan in jeopardy. But there wasn't anything I could do at that point, so I tried to forget about it.

The girl suddenly tried one last attempt for freedom. She started trying to run. Her sudden change in attitude startled the security guard who was trying to carry her to the electric buggy, so he released her from his grip as an automatic reflex. Recovering after a split second, the guards started to chase her, but she was much faster than they were. Just as she was about to go out of sight Alan and I, one of the security guards pulled out a gun and shot her in the leg. She fell down in pain, without a scream this time, and was apprehended by the guards.
This was more than a littlle worrying. We had not planned how to face armed opposition at this point. We had prepared for being faced with guns in later phases, but not at this stage.

Alan and I stared at each other, both with a look more horrified than each other's.
