Description It had been five days since Sam had been placed in the wilderness, he was not fairing well. His face was coverd in frost and he could barley feel his finger or his toes. He had been sent there by his father to help the men mine for gold; to him it was a horrid fate. He hated the cold and the men their were not kind to him he was not at all prepared for the wild. There was little food or drink, his cloths were wet with the snow, he had seen the cases of frostbite the other men had caught. He knew it was only a matter of time before he joined them. Sam was not strong; therefore he was not very useful compared to the strong men around him. After work they would see who was the strongest by lifting huge pieces of wood and seeing how long they could hold it above their heads.
"Let us see you do it Sam," one of the men said one night. Sam found a piece of wood, he heaved and hoed but he couldn't lift the piece from the ground. The men all had a hardy laugh,
"If he cant lift a piece of wood how will he do in the mines?" one man shouted laughing.
"The boy should have stayed home!" another yelled. 'How I wish…' Sam thought to himself inside his small tent, 'how I wish to be home.' He thought about his mother and his sisters, how he missed them. Who knew hoe long it would take for a letter to reach them. It had taken him at least a month to reach the frozen wasteland.
"Sam," he looked up to see one of the men he worked with in the mines, "its time for work." He said before walking away to go to work. 'how I wish to be home' he thought before her went out to work.
