Description
During the late 2000s to early 2010s, ESA evaluated dozens of derivatives of and alternate uses for the Automated Transfer Vehicle. Space tugs, crew vehicles (including the ESM for the Orion MPCV), unpressurized cargo delivery, reentry vehicles, permanent ISS modules, man-tended free-fliers, satellite buses, cislunar habitats, and independent station modules were all considered at some time or another. Here, 2 ATV-derived station modules are docked together, using a docking tunnel placed through a hole in the service module (which was designed into the as-flown spacecraft to allow this to be added easily as a future upgrade). A Soyuz spacecraft is docked at the forward port

Makes for an interesting parallel to the Soviet/Russian TKS spacecraft
