Lockheed Martin's Mars Base Camp hangs high over the surface of Mars, viewed by the departing Mars Transfer Vehicle. The second Orion and its attached CPS, still docked at the MBC's aft end, will soon depart as well, redocking to the now-free port of the MTVRelated content

Lockheed is proposing it to be a laboratory and staging site in Mars orbit, from which to launch short (<2 weeks) missions to the surface or Phobos and Deimos. It would be inhabited as a space station whenever a Mars Transfer Vehicle is docked to it, but would spend probably a year or more at a time unmanned between missions
