This is what I made when I developed how to make this effect:

Also, for the last step, I duplicated the layer, inverted the colors, set layer mode to Screen, and lowered the opacity on the two edges layers. Had a slightly more realistic effect, and I thought you'd like to know about it.

Thanks for telling me about your extra steps! I kept the tutorial pretty basic though for beginners, I figured the more experienced people get/are, they can tweak it and experiment more themselves to get different effects. Thanks for the comment and glad it was useful

Or you know, you could save yourself seven years bad luck and an angry mother and do it your way. Nice tutorial!

Actually breaking a mirror and getting the desired effect isn't as easy as you'd think. If you want more clean breaks and larger pieces, you get a million tiny cracks. Also, glass is tougher than you'd expect. Oddly, it took a couple decently strong whacks withΒ a hammer before I even got one break, and I'm no tiny Tim. But, yes, I agree with you that actually breaking a mirror is a more desirable method.

I've never seriously tried to break a mirror before. for artistic value or other wise, really.

I'm glad you find it useful ^_^ And I put that on there because I read a lot of tutorials (So I can try to write a fairly decent one XD) and in the comments it seems whenever someone gets stuck they get all mad and act like jerks, So I just wanted to encourage people to ask for help
