Description On Monno Atoll, most dinosaurs are referred to by common names. The Austroraptor was at some point given the name "haigrie", originally a Shetlandic word for heron.

Austroraptors are the only large carnivorous dinosaurs that are widely domesticated on Monno Atoll, mainly because their diet - fish - is easy for Monno citizens to acquire in large quantities. Grawks (Utahraptors), on the other hand, have a diet of mainly red meat, which is not as easy to get. The only Monno residents who keep domesticated Utahraptors are the aristocrats living in St. Peter's, who keep them mainly as status symbols.

In the past, haigries were first tamed by the women living in Upper Thorpe, mainly to serve as personal guard dogs. This initial taming of haigries was a major stepping stone in Monno's road to becoming a civilized nation. Even in modern times, many of the most well respected dinosaur trainers on the island are women.
