My job as a judge for this season's HTF tournament has showed me how nice it can be to draw the Happy Tree Friends. I always used to draw them so that they resembled the actual HTF in style very closely... but to be honest, this wasn't a very entertaining thing to do. My laziness had led to a lot of copy and pasting, and I had never really made any of the characters look dynamic. So much for art.

But I saw the light once I started drawing my first activity example picture. I draw the HTFs differently now, and I feel that I can actually make them 'move' and... well, live. I open up a sketch in CorelDRAW and redraw it, with - in my opinion - results that are MUCH better.

Of course, I can still do stuff in the old 'real' style if I want to, or if anyone else wants me to do so.

Anyway, here are eight of my favourite Net Friends, custom characters made by some of the best artists on the HTF board. And whaddayaknow: they all have a dA account! Not all of them are active at the Tree Friend place anymore, but what the heck? I like the characters! They're all well thought-out, drawn with care or just darn cute. Plus, they fit in this composition

I'm sorry if I didn't include your characters. That's the risk of making a selection out of a total of 51 Net Friends. These are the first ones I thought of when brainstorming for this group picture, which means I remember them clearly for whatever reason. So if your critters aren't included, please don't be upset... After all, if you're in the Club, that means your characters are great anyway!
