Magnificent creation! Batsy looks awesome as always, and the power of Wulf just emanates from the scene. I LOVE Batsy's pose!

Thank you, yes I was very happy with the way this image turned out. I feel this is one of the better drawings that captures my characters.

You're art still continues to amaze me. I love your style. I just read "Them Monster's" and enjoyed ever panel of it. You actually have inspired a lot of my work since I saw your work on the Hack Slash comic. I'd really like to do fan art of Wulf and Batsy soon.

smoker9.deviantart.com/art/Wul… I will totally buy a Wulf and Batsy comic when I get some money. And also, I was wondering if you could maybe check out my fan art I did of them? If you got the time of course. And feel free to give me honest feedback on it. I appreciate honesty when it comes to my art. And I can't wait to see more of your artwork.

Very cool! Thank you for drawing fan-art of my characters! I really appreciate it. That is perhaps the most flattering thing that can happen to an artist.
Your version of Batsy looks a little meaner than I usually make her (I try to draw her very cute). But Wulf's face looks good and ferocious!

You asked for feedback. Here's one thing I noticed, on a purely technical level: In your drawing Wulf is getting a little lost against the background. The reason why is because he is dark, and the background is also dark. Put a dark object against a dark background, and neither one is able to stand out. You must avoid putting characters against a background that is too close to the same tone, or color.

You might be thinking - "But Wulf's fur is dark, and the night sky is dark! How else am I supposed to draw it?" But there is always a way to make it work, and avoid this problem. For example, you could put reflections of moonlight on Wulf's fur, to make him lighter against the dark sky. Or, you could do the opposite: keep Wulf dark, but move the white moon right behind him, or put a cloud of white fog in the sky behind him. Anything, to make sure your character stands out!

There's an easy way to test your drawing for this problem. Just look at your drawing, and squint your eyes, so you are seeing it blurry, out of focus. That is how you can really tell if your character is standing out enough. If you squint your eyes and the character just blurs into the background and you can't make him out - then there is not enough contrast between character and background. But if you can squint your eyes and still make out the shapes of the character, and tell it apart from the background - then you know it's standing out enough. Try it and see.

Okay there is my honest feedback since you asked.
I hope you won't waste time, going back and changing a finished drawing to try and "fix it" based on my advice.
This one is done, and it is fine. But when you move on to your next drawing, keep this advice in mind and see if it helps you make something even better!
Just keep moving forward and making new stuff!
The goal is to keep learning and improving with every drawing you do.

Keep up the good work!
-Bryan

Wow, I'm honestly very flattered you went to the trouble to give me feedback. I really appreciate that. And yaw, I kind of knew that the darks blended in together. That's a problem of my art, why I don't do backgrounds that much anymore. But your advice is really good and I will use the squinting technique next time. I may draw these guys again soon, if that's okay with you. Again, thank you very much for the feedback and honesty. Keep up the good work my friend.

I can personally relate to Wulf and Batsy, it is never easy being a monster, but then again it's never easy being Human either, lol

I do try to make the characters relatable in the stories... even though they are monsters.

Yep, I'd ask Batsy out on a date. Β Probably would have to contend with a very jealous lycanthrope, but still....

BryanBaugh In reply to Jwondga [2013-10-25 21:26:12 +0000 UTC]

Ha! She'd probably say yes... But only to lure you into some dark alley and drink your blood. Then let the jealous lycanthrope feed on your lifeless shell.

Heh-Heh-Heh...

Yay! Another W&B art. I miss them so much. Can't wait for new content. Had no idea out of all the things that was difficult to draw,, it was the shoes lol. I thought it was maybe the hair or Wulf's fur that was hard to draw. haha. Anyway, it'll be cool if we could see a a piece with Cevin also. Like maybe Cevin and his shadow on the wall would be Wulf. I think that'll be neat.

That's cool.

How long does it take to get a comic series published and what would you say would be the hardest parts to deal with?

Just curious.

Actually the end of my first trade paperback, "Wulf and Batsy Volume 1" includes a 40-page "behind-the-scenes" essay explaining the whole history of how I created the characters, and the long, difficult road to getting my comics in print. You can order the book here:Β www.cryptlogic.net/store/

Heyah, Brian Baugh.Β  Have you ever considered putting Wolf and Batsy into a setting where people eating would go unnoticed? "I saw a werewolf/vampire", cloud of war type scenario?

I've written and illustrated several stories about Wulf and Batsy, and have many more planned. So, I've considered all kinds of different story situations.Β

Better than "Twilight".

PS. Oh yeah, and lose the shoes for Batsy over previous discussion on previous deviation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BryanBaugh In reply to DTWX [2013-09-07 18:13:40 +0000 UTC]

"Better" will be a matter of opinion, but "totally different" would be a claim nobody could argue with.
And I can honestly say I made up Wulf and Batsy a long time before anybody ever heard of Twilight.

P.S. just curious, what makes you say that?

DTWX In reply to BryanBaugh [2013-09-08 08:30:28 +0000 UTC]

Whut make me say whut?
The shoes or the 'Twilight' thingy?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BryanBaugh In reply to DTWX [2013-09-08 10:00:37 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the confusion - my "P.S." was meant to address the P.S. in your comment.
I just found it funny, you are the second person in a month to express a dislike for Batsy's shoes. Just couldn't help but wonder about that.

Here's a "behind-the-scenes" secret: women's shoes are annoyingly difficult to draw. If you draw them at slightly the wrong angle or make the front too long, or the heels too thick, they immediately start looking bulky, clunky, and goofy. So I try to sneak around the problem by drawing Batsy wearing little slippers which don't require a big heel or add too much size. But they still never look quite right.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DTWX In reply to BryanBaugh [2013-09-08 10:12:14 +0000 UTC]

Bah. I just draw shoes, rather than sandals or slippers, or the like, though I prefer just Bare Feet.

But to quote Michelangelo di Artist:
What spirit is so empty and blind that it cannot recognize the fact that the Foot is more noble than the Shoe, and skin more beautiful than the garment with which it is clothed?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BryanBaugh In reply to DTWX [2013-09-08 10:35:44 +0000 UTC]

No offense, but it is kind of amazing to me that anyone would pay that much attention to the vampire girl's shoes... when there's a big slobbering bloodthirsty werewolf in the picture too! Haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DTWX In reply to BryanBaugh [2013-09-08 11:08:53 +0000 UTC]

But the "Bloodthirsty" Werewolf is there to protect the sultry Vampiress. For if the Wolf is known as the Protector of Man, what would that make the WereWolf?

PS. I still think that Wulf should have a Tail, cuz y' know, wolves have 'em & would make a "Totally Different" outlook on the character, but that's just my Aspie philosophy.
