The Courier was only about four hours from Nipton now, but the sky was beginning to turn from blue to a rose pink, and she knew she wouldn't make it before nightfall. Setting out a roll of cloth beside an old campfire, she watched the sunset absentmindedly, gathering the few things she'd learned about herself in the past few days. After waking up in Goodsprings she barely even remembered her own name, let alone her entire life.

The sunset cast a soft orange glow over the distant horizon, and though it stung to look so long at the sun, she continued to watch its slow descent. Behind her the skyline of New Vegas was beginning to turn on its lights, their soft twinkling not enough to yet drown out the sun's light. Recalling on the last couple of days' exploring, the Courier wrapped a blanket around her, focusing on the soft silhouette of Nipton to her right. Smiling softly, she thought of tomorrow and how Nipton would bring her one step closer to checkered suit. Lighting the campfire and taking a swig from her canteen, she laid out the razor Doc Mitchell had supplied her with, and the machete she had found in Primm. Wrapping herself up tighter in the blanket as the soft oranges and pinks of the sky faded into deeper blues and purples, she closed her eyes to the sparkling stars overhead and the barren wasteland stretching forever in all directions – and fell asleep within minutes.

Exactly one and a half miles away, a tall, blonde man in a dapper suit was discussing a deadly deal with the mayor of Nipton.

Further north, in the quiet secluded sniper's nest in Novac, a troubled ex-NCR was polishing his rifle, plotting his revenge against the person that had betrayed his wife.

And in the beautiful city of New Vegas, a man named Benny was holding a platinum chip up to a light on his room on the thirteenth floor of the Tops.

At half eleven in the morning, the Courier awoke to thin lines of smoke on the Nipton horizon, completely unaware of the three lives that were about to be thrown into disarray because of her simply walking into the smoldering town.
