Description
Reports of a new PLA Ground Forces rifle first came in Afghanistan at the PLA Support Base in Sarhadd, mostly from joint counter-terrorist missions between the Chinese and Afghani special forces. The first rifle to be obtained by United States intelligence agencies in 2033 from rural village in Djibouti for a price of $212. This was the West's first true introduction to the QBZ-30, chambered in the new 5.8 polymer case ammunition. While the rifle is largely a variation of Type-95 assault weapon family, the plastic round it fires came to quite the shock to US officials... as it was direct copy of the case telescoped ammo developed in the Army's Lightweight Small Arms Technology (LSAT) program.
The QBZ-30 is constructed largely of polymer, like the QBZ-95, weighting 3.64 kg (8.1 lbs) in it's standard rifle configuration. It is also reported to have a shorter carbine model and a light support configuration. The 5.8 CT round is extremely light in comparison to 5.8x42mm steel case ammunition, while also greatly improving the terminal ballistics over it's predecessor. Traveling in 2700s from the muzzle, it retains nearly a 1700 fps velocity past the 600 meter mark with 90 grain bullet. Most experts agree that the QBZ-30 was the PLA's solution to greater amounts armor being used on the battlefield. However, while the Type-95 and LSAT program weapons fired from a closed bolt the new Chinese rifle operates from an open bolt, thus reduce it's accurate greatly.
