Description
This is kinda random XD
I've been SUPER BUSY lately, packing and cleaning up my place, getting ready to move back to Australia, so.... very little time to draw/ comment/ reply.... so I am sorry to the people whom I owe art and who I haven't replied to TT__TT
One of the things on my to-do list was to draw some calligraphy as a parting gift to my calligraphy teacher, Kuroiwa-sensei. I decided to have a go using long paper... generally I draw 6 kanji per page, but I bought some big-ass paper and tried to draw a 16 kanji set xDDD My teacher has taught me many kanji over a few years, so I went through my booklets and chose my "top 16", a mix of kanji I like and ones I am "good at" drawing xD I have enjoyed learning Japanese calligraphy so much... and as a lazy introvert who never goes out to do productive or outgoing things, this has been my main "cultural activity" of my time in Japan... and I really got into it. I'm no pro, obviously.... but... I reached rank 1 一級 of the entry level, so I'm quite pleased.
I'm hella emotional about leaving Japan, so I'm going to go ahead and rant about my choice of kanji... just because I want to
(from the sheet on the left. Top to bottom, right to left)
海 - umi "ocean" This kanji is pretty. Though I drew it too small and I suck at it. -_-
逢 - au "to meet" one of the latest kanji I learned, and he's just fun to draw. I screwed it up here.
石 - ishi "stone" A fun and simple kanji. I like it a lot because I have an OC called "Ishi", huehue
開 - aku "open" I always found the radical mon "門" easy to draw. It was my forte, you might say. So I had to add it.
地 - chi "earth" Just an awesome kanji, fun to draw and I love its shape.
陽 - hi "sun" My fave kanji <3 though this sucker is tricky to draw >:C I mess it up every time.
朝 - asa "morning" pretty kanji, nice meaning. Easy to draw. Love it.
極 - kyoku "extreme" I have fond memories of impressing my sensei with drawing this one quite well U//v//U
ーーーーー
雲 - kumo "cloud" I wanted to draw "yuki", but kumo looks objectively cooler.
天 - ten "heaven" This kanji is so cool but the heavens forbid me to be able to draw it well.
動 - dou "motion" to me this is a common kanji with an iconic shape. I screwed up this sucker here -__-
葉 - ha "leaf" Such a beautiful kanji! Don't you agree? <3
過 - sugosu "spend" I love it. It's so easy to draw! I like kanji made up of boxes xD
島 - shima "island" I have a lot of nature kanji here... so throw in island just for thematic appeal.
草 - kusa "grass" Grass is grassy.
花 - hana "flower" Obvious kanji is obvious. I hid this one at the bottom because this sucker is a nightmare to draw well.
(I know the kanji all have multiple readings and meanings, but for simplicity I kept it basic)
LOL I hope you enjoyed my needless detail! If it's not obvious... I kinda love/ adore/ am obsessed with kanji, heehee and I feel so great that I finally got these done! The ones in the bottom right corner are some special ones I drew, in "sousho" style (extra squiggly)
Okay, time to go back to stressing and cleaning U//~//U;;

oh, that's so cool!! I know you said you are no pro, but these looks so pretty to me ^^
I just started learning japaneese recently, so I am over with hiragana, but katakana is harder for me xD not to mention these kanji.
btw. I didn't know you lived in Japan! that's so awesome, what brought you there from Australia?
I can see why you are emotional about it, it's like having two homes, isn't it? I moved a lot before as well. And then I worked in London like for 3 months, and next year again for 2 months, and from that time I worked there, I already miss it so much xD like my heart still lies there.

Yeah! I lived in Japan for five years, but I only just moved back to Australia, which is why I am super busy right now and unresponsive on DA T_T but I studied Japanese for a few years and got really into calligraphy while I was there xD OH! That's awesome that you started studying Japanese! It's a great, yet frustrating language to learn XP and yeeahhh... katakana is like, honestly the worst xD especially since you learn hiragana, then they are like "PSYCHE SUCKER, you gotta learn all these sounds AGAIN but differently and stupider!" I honestly think slowly learning basic kanji is way easier than maneuvering through those silly katakana... <_< so good luck! Let me know how it goes! I can help you practice if you like
Yeah for sure! My little town in Nagano is my second home Q.Q I do miss it already! You can get attached easily, I have learned, lol. Mmmmm I wanna visit London some day toooo, it sounds cool >.< Hopefully you can get back there regularly for a visit!

ohoo, I would be glad for practice xD
but I was wondering - I suppose you are australian right? so why did you come to japan in first place, and then why are you coming back to australia? : ) (if it's ok to tell me)

Yeah! Japanese is easy to forget quickly, I have to keep up practice or I know I will forget it all >.<
Ahh, yeah, I'm Australian :3 I went to Japan in 2013 on the JET Programme to teach English there, because I always liked Japan and its culture, and since I didn't have anything lined up in Australia, I decided to apply... and I got in 8D I ended up staying in Japan (Nagano) for 5 years, though 5 years is the limit for the JET contract, so I had to get a new job there or come home. I decided it was time to come home, because I was kinda sick of teaching and I had travelled most of Japan and done all I wanted to do already, so, it was time to come back to Aus and see my family >w<
And what work were you doing in London? :0

Aaah, that sounds so cool! I would love to hear Australian english someday ^^
was it a program for native speakers? it's very impressive to just hear about it, like a dream come true haha xD (how old are you btw?)
while I was at uni (I still am), I went on summer holidays to London, first I was supposed to work in tesco storehouse, but they took very long answer - like more than 2 weeks, so I found another work, and I was super happy that I did. I worked for company called onefinestay, which is something that allows you to go into a house instead of a hotel - like for super rich people (but there are also small flats, so probably for anyone who wants more comfort). They are also in Paris and other big cities around the world.. ^^ So it works like, there are houses in which people normally live, and when they go away for holiday - the guests who come visit London live there instead of them. So it was like housekeeping - first everything must be clean right. But I was working as demi at first, then as a teamleader - because they said my english is very good - I was so happy hearing this from an english man xD
So I was working with keys, apps, we had to call to operations all the time - like if there was any problem, we were late or simply anything that was not according to plan. Also I worked with host stuff, we had to put their belongings away, when the guests came, and then again back to where it was when the host was coming back ^^
I really loved this work, because I had a look at so many houses, also travelled like through all London, because they have houses not only in the centre but all around in London.
Hope you have an idea now haha xD

Ayy, that looks so nice :o You seem talented to my absolutely non-japanese eye why am i saying "absolutely non-japanese" when i can read the obvious "arigato gozaimasu" there, damnn, it's gonna stay a secret xD Won't lie, I like looking at calligraphy thingies a lot, sooo that was right on point for me LOL They all look so beautiful owo
tbh somehow this ->冥<- mei thingy stood out to me all the way before, probably because of this track --

Late replies and late everything, pffffff
Thank you!! I didn't know if anyone would give a shit if I posted calligraphy here, so I am very happy that this pic got some amount of interest, yay! ^.^ Oh cool, you can read hiragana, which puts you above most dumb weeaboo dumbass fakers xDD Anyway, I'm glad you like it! And I'm glad you also appreciate calligraphy! It seems like such a random thing to be into, but I just love it *__*
Oooooh! So that kanji "mei" is an archaic version of the kanji for "dark" that's cool! I didn't know that 8DDDD

SineShines In reply to Buritsu [2018-08-10 17:52:50 +0000 UTC]
C'mon, calligraphy isn't a common thing to see here so it was a bit of a fresh breath xDD Yeaah, I learnt hiragana and katakana to be able to read some track names in rhythm games at least approximately and the whole thing seems to be a useful skill, hehe xD Someday I'll bitch up and go take on kanji >:D but obviously not now too busy with hungarian Calligraphy is a cool thing to be into!! And a pretty rare one too xD
Oh wow, it's actually archaic xDDD Explains why I never meet it when I stumble upon japanese texts LOOL Probably the only kanji I actually remember though, hahah

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, since calligraphy is the same as tea ceremony and rules are severe, it is not popular recently in Japan.
Only learn a few hours in the elementary school classroom. Me too, I was like that.
Your calligraphy is really beautiful.
I am glad you came to like kanji.
私も漢字が、おもしろいし美しいので大好きです。書道はしませんが・・・・

I'm sure Kuroiwa-sensei, whose name is amazing to start with (XD), is super proud of you, Buri!!! ;v;
Look at the beauty of those kanjis!
I also love 石 because I have an OC (not on dA) whose family name is 石川 hehe quite typical.
I love 開く because it's so graphic, you can see 門 + the little "A" so of course it would mean "open". Also, "open" in Spanish is "Abrir",
so we have the "A" as a guide xD
XDD!! 陽 IS tricky! I confuse it all the time with 場, damn, just a small change >_>;;;
I know why you like 朝: 朝ご飯, the most important meal of the day ;·D
Hehehe cool comparison with "heaven"
GAAAHHH 葉 is my favorite kanji, I LOVE IT!!! It's just so beautiful, indeed!!!
LOL right? 花 is a simple kanji when you look at it but for some reason, it's a total pain in the ass drawing it >:·(
I love how kanjis have stories behind them... OR you can make the stories on your own! For example, "sugosu" 過ごす... You said they are boxes... I thought
of buying stuff on Amazon and piling up the boxes somewhere, so you technically spent money before... ehm... it's a bit complicated
but KANJI STORIES ARE COMPLICATED sgdjgejg XD
ANYWAY! This looks super cool and pretty *_* You're not Australian, don't lie, you're Japalian, man XD
;v; Good luck, senpai! Don't worry, we wait for your replies, comments, art...
