I agree with a lot of previous comments. This does look like Skyrim! Whenever I get my own dSLR, I'm going to bombard you with all kinds of questions! I'm not sure if there is so much pristine wilderness here, but if I can take photos half as good as yours... I would be thrilled. You do have a knack for preserving details. I didn't know you ran your photos through software that turns it into something HD, though. Is it Photoshop? I didn't even know you could do that! I have so much to learn yet, but thankfully, I'll have a network of incredibly talented teachers and inspirations!

How do you preserve the details of the mountains? I remember you told me before about bracketing my shots, which I have tried, but I still have a hard time preserving detail in landscapes for things that are further in the distance.. but it seems like you have it down to a T

Burtn In reply to CassieMerryman [2013-02-27 17:10:04 +0000 UTC]

Hallo Cassie, I just can guess. If you are using the kit-lens you should take landscape pictures with apertures between f8 and f11 and set the autofocus on the center field. IΒ΄m having the same problem with pentax cameras and their kit-lens. The other thing is that IΒ΄m processing the bracketed pictures to a hdr image, with a software that enhances detailes. But this doesnΒ΄t work if there arenΒ΄t enough details on the single exposures. High Iso can also destroy details. ItΒ΄s better to take pictures with Iso 200 and a tripod than iso 1600 and none

CassieMerryman In reply to Burtn [2013-03-22 05:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I have recently tried to use a high aperture (with a tripod) to bring distant subjects more in to focus and although I am seeing a little bit of an improvement, my photos are no where near as detailed as yours are. I'm just starting to think I may need a more powerful lens and/or camera.

IΒ΄m very sorry that you are having these troubles. If you were here I'd take you for a phototrip and find out what's wrong. I've had the same problem with Canon, Pentax and even the expensive Sigma, so I returned to the Olympus Pen that produce very sharp and detailed pictures from the middle to the corners, even with the kit lens. The Olympus system is not good at high iso, but you can live with that. If you want highly detailed pictures with your Nikon you will need a good and expensive lens, Sigma and Tamron are offering quite good lenses for Nikon too and are a bit cheaper.
Cheers then, let me hear of you.

Fantastic shot that mountain looks almost volcanic?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Burtn In reply to Slug22 [2013-02-25 19:34:15 +0000 UTC]

Hi, it is not volcanic but limestone and dolomite rock built up by little organisms like corals in trias age.

Sounds like a fossil hunters paradise Very interesting, we have a fossilised coral reef close to us, I've never seen it but it has protected status

Burtn In reply to Slug22 [2013-02-26 16:35:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you are right. I guess the biggest coral reefs of the Alps are more than 10000ft high. Very busy animals
