It's been a long while since I was a pagan (I just don't do gods any more), so don't jump to too many conclusions here; I simply wanted to do something interesting with a bold shape encrusted with knotwork, and I thought that this would be a really striking image. One of these days I mean to do something similar with a Celtic cross, just to muddy the theological waters even more, or to give equal time, or something - because it's also a striking, bold symbol in its Celtic version.I've done two treatments of the pentacle, one gold, and the other silver; each one is essentially the same except for its palette.
Thee are eighteen "gripping beast" dragons - ten in the circle, eight in the corners - with several panels of interlaced bands - and of course the pentacle itself is here turned into a knotwork design.

I make no assumptions about your spirituality one way or another. Β I do, however, want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for these stunningly gorgeous pentacles. Β I saw you image with a rainbow filter over it and tracked you down through that image. Β May I say that your originals are so much more beautiful than the rainbow version used by Lleweylln's. Β I am a bit of a rainbow buff and until this moment I could not have believed that something would look better without a rainbow ... both your silver and gold pentacles are stunning, this one is my favorite though!

These images have been ripped off so widely that it's very unlikely I'd ever do anything along these lines again.
The only licensed use of them (aside from products I sell through my web site) is on a CD packaging design from Prometheus Music.
I'm not familiar with the rainbow-tinted one you've mentioned; is it atΒ Lleweylln? They really ought to know better. I'd appreciate a link.

This is one of the loveliest pentacles I've seen. Great detail without making it seem too busy. The simplicity comes through, I think in part by the dusky colours you used.

The amout of detail in this is simply amazing. Even if I assume you did each motif only once and then copy-pasted it (am I even right?), it's still a lot of patient work. And I love the colours, both soft and clear. The result looks colourful but still delicate and well balanced. Great work!

That's sort of right - I painted the elements, and positioned copies into place, but then did lighting effects and some additional work once the copies were there.

This is fascinating and highly inspirational.
I could sit for hours following the knots, deciding where they meet up, and which strand goes in which direction. I've never quite gotten the handle on knotwork, but you seem to have mastered it and your gallery is full of such beautiful work!

It's not often we see dragons depicted in celtic knots as actual dragons instead of giant dogs. I love celtic work, but that's the one qualm I always had with it. This is breathtaking, as is much of your other work. That's the cool thing about celtic knotwork, you don't have to be religious to appreciate it. I happen to be pagan/agnostic, and everything in here hits home beautifully.

Well, thanks. The fact is that dragons don't show up in any Celtic stories until you get to the prophecy of Merlin - and that one was written by a Saxon. So they were definitely an invasive species that the Celtic artists might not have known much about
