Description The Adventuress in Eagle Harbor - this shot reminds me of the old sailing novels by CS Forester with the trees and the ship preparing for sea.

I've enjoyed all the Forester and O'Brian series, and just finished a book by a new author, S. Thomas Russell that was great. He only has 2 books out so far.

On one of my several trips to the Caribbean we took a schooner for a day trip around St. Lucia. I have a photo of myself leaning on the mast (I remember telling everyone that I was holding it up so it wouldn't fall) after imbibing several rum drinks before noon . I usually waited until noon to start but hey, it was a vacation. That photo will never be posted here, nor will other top secret photos such as the ones of me as a disco DJ (oops, did I admit that?). Don't want anyone to die laughing.

Have you tried Alexander Kent's Bolitho Series ?

I think that's why I took up a camera - so I wouldn't be IN the pictures

I just finished collecting the Bolitho set and will start reading it soon. I'll read a bit of a series to see if I like it, then I go about collecting all before I start - probably a sign of OCD. I also read his mostly WWII English Navy stuff written under the name Reeman (I forget if Kent or Reeman is his real name). I also collect Lambdin, Pope, Woodman, Stockwin, McCutchan (HRH Navy in WWI) and William H. White. Also just discovered James L. Nelson (Jefferson and Madison's US Navy). I love that stuff, of course some are better than others but I like the slice of what life was like back then that the good ones deliver along with the stories.

Well, you see, if I had stopped holding up the mast to prevent my (now ex) wife from picking up my camera and taking the photo, who knows? The mast may have fallen and we would have been helpless to run from the pirates, who would have swooped in and taken us back to their lair. The pirates would have finished off the rum drinks too. Where's my parrot? There's not a moment to lose!
