It is tragic that Brian died but in real life that is the way things actualy go. Contrary to what many believe cartoon characters are not immortal, mufasa is a prime example of this and so is the joker. In real life pets die and yes I do agree that Brian should not have died so soon. but the fact of the matter is, this makes the show more believable. When I lost my beloved crystal my darling little rabbit who didn't even reach a year in life. I was distraught but I learnt to cope as stewie is now , although I didn't replace crystal right away like the Griffin's did with Brian but that is part of the grieving process (I've been there so I know), my chickens blondie and toffee never took the place of my chrissie , because no animal ever takes the place of the one you lost but you love them just differently.
And it's the same with the new dog vinny, he will never fill the same spot as Brian did in the family, he will never be Brian but that doesn't mean we won't grow to love him as we came to love brian
Brian you will always be in your fans hearts through us you will live on, may you look down from heaven with my dear chrissie and mufasa and live within us
You may be gone but you will never be forgotten, and to quote Elton John your candle burnt out long before youd legend ever did.
