Thank you very much for sharing this Tom. I've been struggling a little with this.
Now i'm almost ready to send some of my work to print.
Did you already make some prints for yourself or others?
I wonder how i might get the resolution up to 300 dpi, as requested by my printing house.
... maybe i'll let DA handle the printing.

I'm starting to feel comfortable with the basic program offerings and ready to venture into Post-processing. Thank you for spelling out simply and clearly what happens and the ranges that are most likely to yield desireable results. Many thanks!

I realize this tutorial has been around a while, but I just had a look at it and it was very helpful! I've rarely done any post work, but this is just so easy to do right from Apo! I'll probably post process most everything now. It helps you learn the what everything actually does too!
Thanks

I have started to recommend it to other people who look to need this, so thank you for taking the time to show the ropes.
Contrast seems to work on a decibel scale more so than a linear one, if I adjust contrast, I do it to .1 or .01 to kill over-saturation and bright-spots.

Contrast can be used to reduce oversatuation in the image. I can counteract the bright spots from low gamma values by dropping the contrast to .1 or in severe cases .01

I use the postprocess render function exclusively now. I had always wondered how people were getting higher quality flames than me even when I rendered at a very high quality, now I know. The best coloring I got so far was by using a Vibrancy 2 level on a pink picture
[link]
and although the high value did brighten a bit much it worked for this particular picture.
Thanks for the all the info, tuts, scripts, you rock dude!

Very well written tutorial. I understood the basics of how to use Post-Process, but having used flam3 for over a year now to render, that function never really intrigued me. Now it does.

Fascinating! Well written. I had never tried that. But I rarely feel the need (I used to post-process in PSP, but haven't done that in a long time). However, occasionally, it might be useful. I'll try it out. Thanks!

LadyLyonnesse In reply to CabinTom [2007-07-15 02:05:37 +0000 UTC]
I keep finding that the effect of a post xform is not much different than a final xform. They both seem to have very similar effects...making larger/smaller, expanding/contracting certain aspects, turning perspectives etc. Should I concentrate on one particular xform for a post xform? Maybe the one or two which have the most effect on the flame? It is VERY frustrating. I have so admired the work you have posted, saying "Uses post xform." and I think "I never get anything like those results." I think this is the biggest hurdle I have yet to cross. By trial and error I have made some sense out of most of the other Apo functions, but this one completely eludes me!
