Description
Not named for a gun btw; but for an actual colt as in (wiki attack) "A young male horse" <--- there you go!Could've called it the "Stallion" gunship, but that would've had a very weird ring to it so I went with Colt.
The colt was first constructed to be a fast and agile gunship that would hunt down multiple targets and take them out in strafing assaults. It was later to be taken out of service when the climates on the battlefields changed somewhat and even the versatile BUG craft were challenged, but ingenious as the field-marshals are
Actually the Colt has been kept around solely because it could accept a turret ad-on to the rear (something the BUG can't) and so it can serve as a support plane, protecting the more sluggish but heavier armed gunships and with the added potential to take out targets in the air and at high altitude, not to mention, join in on joint strike missions; it is a fairly valuable craft after all.
Colt's are extremely fast, manoeuvrable and light, they can only carry very marginal additional payload to the front mounted four-barrelled gatling-cannon, but that thing alone is a very impressive weapon. Some are even made to carry two such guns, even if that severely limits the performance of both plane and guns, its more for show.
Note the side ports on the wings, these are made to turn the craft rapidly in either direction and with the aid of the forward facing exhaust-port at the middle, provide braking and VTOL ability along with the covered thrust-ports closest to the intake manifolds.
Another notable feature of this plane is that its engines bear a lot of similarity to the Phoenixes since both have virtually no moving parts and are near impervious to ground fire -as long as its not heavy projectiles fired at the side of the manifolds- since most is either forced to veer off by air-currents or sucked in and dealt with with the rest of the exhaust.
I've drawn this plane before in the past so you might notice I got rid of the ventral fin; it was bothering me.
