Well after the fail the night before i went back last night and tried again
Exposure is equivalent to an hour
I said equivalent because this is made from 120 shots! =Sun-Seeker lead me to [link] . Each taken @ 30sec, F/4, ISO500, 10mm on a 40D. While a separate 70sec shot was taken at lower ISO where i painted the lighthouse with a phone!

I can't believe you lit it with a phone! So awesome. Do you prefer one long exposure, or lots of 30sec exposures for star trails?
I tried capturing some startrails myself, but I "only" have a Nikon D40... tried a ~30min exposure and had MAJOR amp glow from the sensor overheating. I was gonna try taking a series of 30s pictures and then combine them with startrails.exe or whatever.
Any advice?
And I think I'll add you to my watch list... You're pictures are so epic!

I'm the finding the multiple shorter exposures a lot better.. i tend to get the heat soak in one of the corners if i do a single shot anywhere around 10mins which just isn't long enough!
Only advice is make sure you expose correctly for the multiple exposures.. don't wanna do 200 images and they're over or under exposed! you may need to use a higher iso than normal but when you use the program most of the noise seems to disappear

skill, like the way that with alot of yuor shots you use lights (i.e moblie phone)instead of doing everything in photoshop

Thanks! I find it saves time(on the computer anyway) and usually get better quality out of the image. Changing light in post processing tends to create some grain.

its pretty fun painting things, especially with such a crappy instrument like my phone. i keep forgetting to charge the batteries for the flashes, even when i do though the batteries are lucky to last a week without even using them!
