He Shranked Me With Science

"TODAY IS THE DAY!" The rust furred kitten shouted! He was standing atop the coffee table in the living room, proudly holding above his head with two paws a plastic orange gun. "Today is the day! In which I only have two more days till the science fair!"

"Uhhhh, Calex?" The kitten's older brother, an eight year old lion cub stared down at the kitten. Even standing on top of the table Calex barely made it up in height to his brother's chest. Unlike his little brother who was in his bare fur and didn't seem to even comprehend the concept of clothing the lion was wearing a brown loincloth. "I know. You've announced the science fair every day for the past two months."

"I'm just really excited James!" Calex shouted. "I'm a sure win this year!"

"I thought you were banned from the science fair, on account of the whole moon escapade last year." James started.

"Oh don't worry! They'll forget completely about that, when they see my shrink ray! HA!" Calex pointed the ray at James, and then started to make 'pew pew' sounds.

"Is that a Nintendo Light Gun?" James asked.

"No, it quite clearly says Shrink Ray on it." Calex crossed his armed and humphed.

"It... it looks like you just wrote Shrink Ray on a Nintendo Light Gun." James started.

"I may have used that for the base! But then I did all this sciency stuff! Now it's a shrink ray! I just needed the Light Gun for a case." Calex explained.

"Define sciency stuff." James had a blank expression.

"Wellllllll." Calex thought for a moment.

Three Days Ago

"Be sciency!" Cal was beating on a Nintendo Light Gun with a brick, until finally a green glowing light shot from the end of it. "Success!"

Back in the present.

"Um, science stuff!" Calex explained. "Like wires and glowy things! Today it's ready for testing! Except.... My partner for testing isn't here yet! Hey! You wanna go fist!?" Calex pointed the ray at James. "I promise its safe! Mostly! Probably!" He once more started to make pew pew noises.

"Let's not." James snatched the gun out of Calex's paws.

"Hey that was mine!"Calex whined.

"I think you're a little wound up for toys like this now. If you are entering the school's science fair, maybe you should spend some time working on an actual project rather than playing with..." James was cut off as he gripped the plastic gun he felt the trigger slide beneath his finger and a green light shot out from it. "Whoa, this thing has a hair trigger!?" He looked up, only to notice the ray had struck a target, Calex.

Calex was surrounded by a green glow similar to the laser that had fired out. He wasn't exactly very big to begin with, and now his body was dwindling in size rapidly. The werekitten shrunk down onto the coffee table, soon no longer level with his brother's chest, but instead his stomach, and his waist. He was used to his older brother being bigger than him, but now he was like some kind of titan! The table itself was now larger two, stretching out in all directions it would have been a bit of a hike to reach the end of it. After the green glow faded he was less than an inch tall!

"Mrooooow!" Calex was slightly disoriented at first. "Bro did you have a sudden growth spurt?"

".... No." James was staring in disbelief at his tiny younger brother and then at the gun. It worked?

"Wait, then... Cal shranked?" Calex asked.

"You shrunk." James corrected his grammar.

"I shranked I shranked!" Calex shouted excitedly, and started to run around on the table. "It actually works! Even I thought I was mad! Even if I did believe in me. But that was probably a sign of madness the point is I'm gonna win a blue ribbon!"

"Um..... Calex. Aren't you... a little concerned about your situation at all?" James asked.

"No... Why?" Calex stared up at his brother wide eyed.

"Because..." James set the shrink ray down on the table. "You're tiny!" He tried to explain.

"Oh! Just a small set back." Calex dismissed the notion.

"I..." James twitched, not sure how to respond to a pun like that right away. One instinct told him to grab for the ray and fire again, which he might have were the two now interrupted by a newcomer.

"Uh, is Calex here? He needed help?" It was a brown furred wolf that had entered the room. He was dressed casually in a blue shirt and brown khaki pants.

"Oh hiiii Camis! We already started!" Calex shouted from the table, before jumping off the edge and starting to run across the floor to the 'giant' wolf.

"Oh hold it!" James quickly dove for the floor, and snatched Calex off the ground before setting him on his shoulder. "If you run around like that you're going to get hurt! It's not exactly easy to see you."

"Ahhh I'd be fine you worry too much." The kitten almost seemed determined to dismiss any danger from his new diminutive size.

"Is that Calex?" Camis asked staring at the tiny kitten on James' shoulder. "What happened?"

"The shrink ray was a success!" Calex cried out in a high pitched voice. "But it still needs more testing."

"The shrink ray?" Camis looked around the room, and then saw the plastic gun that was sitting on the table. He slowly walked over and picked it up. "This thing?"

"Yeah!" Calex shouted. "Try it out! It's fun! Shoot something it needs more testing!"

"Actually, it probably could stand to be tested." James stopped for fighting with Calex for a moment. "If only to make sure it's safe."

"Well, what should I fire it at?" Camis asked.

"Oh oh oh!" Cal shouted. "Shrink bro! Shrink bro!"

"What!?" James shouted. "I thought we were going to test it on something first!"

"It's fun! Come on!" Calex continued to shout. "DOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOITDOIT!"

If it was on accident, or from Cal's egging it wasn't obvious, but the shrink ray went off while it was in Camis' hands and struck James square in the chest. Similar to Calex James was covered in the same green light as his body started to shrink. In just a few moments his loincloth was too big for his smaller frame and fell to the ground. He continued to sink down down down towards the floor. Dropping the gun Camis ran over to check on him and James couldn't even see over the top of Camis' paw.

"Mroooooowl!" James gave out a cry.

"That was awesome!" Calex cried out.

"Cal, where are you!?" James looked around, only to find the small kitten was still on his shoulder, and still the same size in comparison to him. He looked up the giant wolf, then back down at the tiny kitten. "Calex, I think you shrunk again."

"Ohhhh! The effects must be cumulative! I'm like a flea now!" Cal shouted happily. "I'm gonna run away from home and join a flea circus!" Calex started to jump off of his brother's shoulder, only to be caught by the tail and dangled upside down.

"No you're not!" James stated.

"Uhhhh." Camis slowly picked up James, and by proxy Calex, and sat the tiny lion down on his head. "Let's put you two up there for now so you don't get lost." As soon as he finished, a fourth person entered the room.

It was a blue husky with a black stripe running down his back and tail that entered the room this time. He was dressed only in a pair of black pants and blinked a few times as he entered the room.

"Um, I couldn't help but notice the door was just standing open and...." The wolf stopped staring around the room seeing Camis, the tiny lion sitting upon his head, the tiny orange speck the lion was holding, and the gun. "What's going on?"

"Calex made a shrink ray." Camis explained. "He was doing it for a science fair.... He kinda got himself shrunken twice... and his brother once."

"Hey not everything is my fault! Blue don't listen to him!" Calex cried out in a barely audible voice. "I mean I didn't even get to fire the gun yet!"

"A shrink ray...." Blue eyed the gun in the corner, and then saw the calendar pinned up showing the science fair in just two days. He had completely forgotten! And how was he to build anything in time! Then again, a certain werekitten was obviously much too small and busy to be using his own entry right now. "Uhhhh I have to go..... Not steal a shrink ray bye." Blue ran out of the room.

"Huh, that was oddly specific." Camis muttered, only for a few moments later, another blue husky with a black stripe running down his back and tail. However, whereas Blue had been dressed in just pants, this one was wearing pants, a top hat, and a cape! He ran in through the front door slamming it behind him. "Who are you!?" Camis cried.

"I am Azul de Bandito! I have come-a to stealo your shrinko rayo!" He shouted.

"Gah! A bandito!" Camis squeaked.

"Um... You know it's just Blue? Right?" James tried to interrupt. "I mean, he's just wearing a fake moustache, and a cape."

"Bro! Be careful!" Calex cried out. "There's a bandito loose in our house!"

"You too?" James asked.

"Ah ha ha haaaaa!" Azul who was defiantly not Blue cried out. He ran across the room, and picked up the shrink ray where Camis had dropped it. "Nowa it is mineo!" He shouted, and twirled his moustache, only for it to fall off.

"See! Fake! James shouted, and I don't think adding random a's and o's onto the end of words makes them Spanish."

"Camis!" Calex shouted. "Azul de Bandito has shaved his moustache off to try to fool us! Don't let him get away!"

"Oh!" Camis blinked. "Right!" And he started to run for Azul.

"Ha! You don't thinko that I would leave any witnessesa dido you?" Azul de Bandito brought the shrink ray down pointing at Camis, and fired.

Camis, and by extension both James and Calex were surrounded by the green light, and all three began to shrink. Camis' pants fell off him in only a few moments leaving him only in a shirt that was soon more like a tent, and then completing covering him. He quickly thrashed around trapped under his shirt, looking for a way out. Finally, he managed to crawl out of his clothes, and looked around.

"Hey everyone here?" The now shrunken Camis squeaked.

"Here!" James shouted. While from his point of view Camis had remained the same size, James couldn't help but notice how massive everything else was. Looking down over the edge of Camis' head he could see the carpet strand, each one of them seemed to be large and about the size of a tree. He then remembered Cal had been caught in the blast as well, and found himself relieved to realize he had managed to keep a hold of the tiny kitten by the tail during the entire thing.

"I see amoebas." Cal spoke. "They're everywhere."

"Cal, don't joke like that, it's scary." James said.

"Joke?" Cal blinked.

"Now, I shall takeo my leave!" Azul cried. "And I, Azul de Bandito shall reigno supremea of the science fairo!"

"Don't let him get away!" Cal cried. "After him Camis!"

"I'm on it!" Camis ran at the giant husky, jumping for him, and managing to grab onto a few strands of his tail, and started to try to climb, the blue strands of fur completely surrounding him.

Azul meanwhile ran for the door, only for it to swing right open knocking him back, and causing him to drop the shrink ray, as well as his hat and somehow the cape.

"Oh hey Blue, when did you get here?" Cal asked.

"You... You can't even see anything other than his tail fur from here." James groaned. "So, that just proves you knew the entire time."

The door had been swung open by a white and blue mimiga dressed in a shirt and a lavender colored jacket.

"I'm sorry, I just tried to open the door, but then the wind blew it wide open." The mimiga spoke.

"It's... okay Erakir." Blue spoke wincing.

"Hey." Erakir started. "Isn't this James' and Calex's house? What are you doing? And where are they?"

"Uhhhh out." Blue started, trying to think. "And I'm uh... house sitting, yeah! You know keeping the place clean for them and stuff while they're gone!"

"I see." Erakir stared down, seeing the shrink ray on the floor. "I don't know if you're doing a good job if you're leaving toys laying around on the floor.

"Uhhhh, they haven't been gone long!" Blue explained. "And you know Calex, never cleans up his stuff, I was just about to put that up!"

"So... Should we be like... intervening or something?" James asked, still surrounded by Blue's tail furs with Cal and Camis.

"I wanna see where this goes!" Cal explained.

"And I'm just trying to figure out what direction is up." Camis shrugged. "It's kinda hard to climb when all I see is blue and black hair in every direction."

"Did I just hear people talking?" Erakir's rabbit ears perked.

"Um, no... It was just.... The TV is on." Blue explained.

"I see." Erakir started to turn, then realizing he was still holding the gun. "Ya know I had one of these when I was a kid, used to play with it without the game." He smiled. "Hey Blue, thing fast. Bang!" He shouted, and pulling the trigger, not realizing what the gun actually was, and a ray shot straight out striking Blue.

"Well, I guess I had that coming." Blue muttered as he started to shrink. Of course, Camis, James, and Calex all began to shrink at the same time, Calex reaching an all time new low size, with each of the other two reaching the size of the person they had been holding onto. Blue himself dropped down in height to under an inch, having to crawl out of his pants and looked up at the giant mimiga. "So, anyway, it's a shrink ray."

"I am, so sorry." Erakir dropped the ray and quickly picked up the tiny husky. "I had no idea, but I guess this is Cal's place."

"Also, you just shrink Camis, James, and Calex as well." Blue said. "See apparently Calex got shrunk first, because he's the smallest! And then I guess James must have been shrunk while he was holding onto Calex or something because Cal was even tinier than him! And then well I shrunk Camis with the ray! And then Camis had James on his head, who was still holding Calex, so both of those two shrunk again. And for reasons I can't go into involving a devilishly handsome bandito Camis was crawling around in my tail fur, which means when you just zapped me, you also got all three of them making them even smaller and wow James and Calex have to be like fighting amoebas or something right now.

".... Why haven't we encountered anything like one cell organisms yet?" James asked. "We are small enough."

"I punched them all into next week before you were small enough to see them." Cal explained. ".... We should probably get this reversed before next week."

"To many bigger problems right now to question it." James explained.

"Hey bad puns are my job!" Cal shouted. "Stealing my job is punishable by a fee of 100 cookies!"

The two argued back and forth for a bit, though outside Camis, and possibly Blue no one could really hear them at their current sizes.

"Um, I don't really know that much about how to work the ray!" Back in the world of things large enough to not worry about one cell organisms, Erakir was examining the ray. "We need some kind of Ray Gun Expert or something, someone who's had a lot of experience with all kinds of rays?"

"But, who are we going to find this late on a Sunday?" Blue asked.

"Excuse me." A fox wearing a white t-shirt, pants and an open blue shirt with a flame design entered the room. "My car just broke down outside."

"Hey everyone it's our special celebrity guest star, KitsuneKit!" Cal shouted as loudly as his tiny lungs would let him from where he was.

(Applause)

"Bro, I'm pretty sure no one can hear you, and I don't think he's actually a celebrity." James explained.

"The applause sign is never wrong bro." Cal explained. James just stared at the tiny kitten he was holding upside down by the tail for a moment, not even sure how to respond to that.

"Oh good timing!" Erakir spoke up to KitsuneKit. "We have a bit of a situation here. Two tiny canines and two even tinier felines. Do you know how to work a shrink ray in reverse?" Erakir offered the ray to KitsuneKit.

"Well... Uh?" KK took the ray. "Can you feel me in on what's happening?"

Erakir quickly explained about how he had accidentally shrunken Blue, and by consequence Camis, James and Calex, and how Blue had shrunk Camis, and therefore James and Calex as well, how Camis had shrunk James and therefore also gotten Calex, and how James had originally shrunken Calex.

"Okay.... So we're dealing with microscopic kittens at this point." KitsuneKit got it. "Well, if we fire the ray in reverse in the exact opposite order, should be able to get everyone back to normal."

"Ah right! I get it!" Erakir held out the tiny Blue in front of him. "So we should get him first.

"Right!" KitsuneKit pointed the ray at Blue and fired, as the green light surrounded both Blue and Erakir, everyone in the room realized they might have made a small mistake. However, instead of the two getting bigger, they started to get smaller. "Huh.... Wait, the two settings are Shrink, and Reverse Growth. Both modes shrink? How does that make sense?"

Erakir squeaked as his jacket and shirt soon became much too big for him and fell right off. He wound up losing his grip on the shrinking husky sending him flying into the air and shrinking down to a size smaller than a flea making it hard to tell where exactly he was. In Blue's tail, Camis kept a firm grip on the strands of fur he had to avoid being shaken out. James and Calex were slightly better off thanks to Camis having such a sturdy grip.

"Hey did you feel the entire universe suddenly shake?" James asked.

"Nah!" Cal shrugged as the green light around him faded indicating he had stopped shrinking again. "I'm just wondering if I could swim in that water molecule or not.

"Cal, it's much too deep. You know you're only allowed in the kiddie molecules." James lectured.

Back at a larger size, relatively speaking, Blue was still flying through the air, grabbing out desperately trying to grab a hold of anything. Finally, he managed to grab the very edge of something fuzzy. He had managed to grab the very edge of one of Erakir's floppy rabbit ears! He wasn't quite able to pull his entire body up though, and was now clinging for dear life to avoid falling from the ear. Technically, he would have less than an inch to fall to the ground, and thanks to being so small wouldn't even feel the impact or be even remotely hurt, but that didn't stop the fear of dropping what appeared to be an infinite distance now.

Erakir meanwhile, just sat down on the ground staring up at the massive world, more surprised and dazed than anything by his suddenly shrinking. One of KK's paws was near him, and he wasn't even taller than a single toe on it! KK quickly bent down and scooped up the tiny mimiga to insure he wouldn't get hurt, and deposited the small thing on the tip of his muzzle so he could see it.

"Alright, that didn't work." KitsuneKit wasn't downhearted just yet. "Just give me a few seconds to examine the ray and..." At that point, the ray gun started humming, and a few sparks crackled out of it. "That, can't be a good sign." The fox was covered in a flash of green light.

The fox shrunk, much faster than anyone else had so far. It only took an instant before his clothes had completely fallen down around him, and in another moment he was small enough to move through the individual threads of the clothing. Whatever had happened, he had just gotten a much more potent blast than anyone else involved so far. When the shrinking finally stopped, he found himself almost in another world. He was standing on top of some kind of gray fuzzy plateau or island. His clothes, as well as the shrink ray were long gone leaving the tiny fox in only his bare fur. Looking around, he walked to the edge of the gray island he was, only to find it ended abruptly like a cliff, and staring down there seemed to be a fall that went on forever into an abyss. Looking out away, he could see there were thousands, millions, maybe even billions of these small gray islands like the one he was one. He connected two and two.

"I...." He started. "I am standing on the very tip. Of a single carpet strand." He let it sink in for a moment realizing just how completely small and tiny he was, then he realized he still had a mimiga on his nose. "Erakir?"

"Uh hi..." Erakir was still stunned. From where he was on KitsuneKit's muzzle, he could see out and all the giant carpet strands as well. From his point of view they were far taller than any mountain he had ever seen. It was almost like looking at the side of a planet.

"Can you check and see if everyone is there?" KitsuneKit asked. "You're... kinda the only one I can see. Not sure if everyone else escaped the blast, or just too small to see."

"Let me check." Erakir spoke. "Blue you there?"

"Still here!" Blue cried out. "Trying very hard not to fall off your ear! Uhhh, Camis, are you there?"

"Yup!" Camis shouted happily. "I've got a good grip on a couple of your hairs! I'm not going anywhere and perfectly happy where I am! Hey, James, I can still feel you on my head, I'm not crazy, right?"

"I'm still here." James replied. "And I've got Calex." He was still dangling the kitten who had started this all with his ray by the tail.

"Really, it's like you're afraid if you let go of me for a second I'll cause horrible mischief. What could I possibly do at this size?" Cal whined.

"I don't know! But you're in trouble when we get back to normal! Look at the mess you caused." James chided.

"I didn't cause the mess." Calex shrugged, and held his hands out while smiling. "After all, I never got to fire the ray once. Not my fault everyone went all crazy with it."

Back up atop the carpet strand, KitsuneKit examined the area, he could see large structures made of colorful strands on the horizon. People's discarded clothing. Then he found what he was looking for. A colossal orange structure that had to be the ray.

"It'll be a long journey, but I think I can jump from strand to strand to get us there to fix it. Alright! Everyone hang on tight! It'll be long but we'll make it!" He shouted.

There was a loud humming sound, as the tip of the colossal orange structure glowed green.

"Oh buggery." KitsuneKit muttered.

"Is that?" Erakir started.

"I'm afraid so." KitsuneKit mumbled.

ZAP!

The fox, mimiga, husky, wolf, lion and kitten were all surrounded by the green glow again.

"Well, at least it's an experience." KitsuneKit smiled. At this point, it was hard not to find the entire thing funny.

"I'm still... mostly a bit shocked by it all." Erakir replied. "But, I guess the sights are amazing."

"I'm still hanging on for dear life!" Blue shouted. "Seriously Erakir! Anytime you want to grab and save me is good now!"

"I'm always up for an adventure like this!" Camis' voice was absolutely bubbly. "Can't wait to see what I'll see next. Maybe I'll ride an electron."

"I don't know how, but I'm certain you somehow knew something like this was going to happen." James spoke to the upside down cat he was dangling. "Still, regardless of how small you get, I'm your big bro so you have to listen to me and be safe."

Cal just kept smiling, enjoying the show even if he couldn't see most of it.

And, covered in the green glow of the shrink ray, they all started to decrease in size again. Who knew when it would stop this time?
