Description A father hears his son
crying out for him
as the doctors insert a tube
down his throat
so that the food can fill out
his skeletal limbs
rather than flowing through the hole
in the side of his throat.
To buy the life of his five-year-old boy
he had to sell his home.

And here I am stuck between
two girls complaining about
how the world is unfair because
our country can afford
to salt the roads
and stain their little suede boots
that are twice the cost of payment
for that dying son.

I have felt this way before too. Some people are so oblivious to everything around them. It infuriates me to no end.

Yeah, I come from Africa and its so hard to just talk to people here in Australia about the third world and its problems... Nobody wants to listen...

Nobody wants to listen because with listening comes guilt and the need to step up. Once you're aware of a problem, it becomes almost impossible to ignore, and people are much more content with living in ignorance than living with an uncomfortable conscience.

Yeah you are right. The cosy bubble syndrome... I kinda get the vibe sometimes that "it's not my problem"... Frustrates me...

I really wanted to, but they weren't in the class with me, so there's no way they could know what was going through my mind. It wouldn'tve been appropriate.

Thanks for this comment, and the fave!!

Yeah...I can't comprehend how people, myself included, can take what they have for granted. Today was a huge whack in the head with the perspective stick.
