The black and white works so well here... The moon just adds a touch that makes it all the more special. I love the expression and the viens popping on this one.

Hmmm. Hadn't actually thought of that angle. Thinking of it now though.
Lemme tells ya a story about Poopdeck Pappy. A true story.
Way back when Popeye was starring in E.C. Segar's Thimble Theater, Popeye did get kinda popular.
And he got even more popular once the Fleischer Brothers started making catoons of him.
Then Popeye got really really big. To the point where people started complaining about his
roughneck ways and how he wasn't really that great of a role model.
So King Features wanted Segar to tone Popeye down a bit.
Well, Segar didn't want to tone Popeye down, and he didn't.
So he created Poopdeck Pappy and made him far worse than the most low down sea scum.
That simple act made Popeye look tame by comparison without having to change him a bit!

Well, it's a true story, I didn't make it up.
I read it in one of the introductions in one of the volumes of the Fantagraphics Book Segar Thimble Theater reprints.

but maybe the moon without the glow would be better

I actually tried that when I was working on it. It looked to stark.
I think the glow makes the entire background seem a little mist enshrouded.

Thanks heaps!
I'm not hugely into fan art either (though you wouldn't believe that by looking at all my Futurama stuff)
I figure, if I'm gonna do some fan art, it's gotta be something really different and unexpected.
And even though folks now expect Futurama pirates from me,
I still try to come up with something they don't expect.
I'm blathering now. Quit I must!
