Yeah... this is old... 2009 to be exact...

So what?

It's not that great either...

I still love it...

This picture has Cappy along with some random buddies of hers... I forget the name of the one with the pan on her head, but Libby, Lacy, Carmel, Kyaka and Mollie are all depicted here...

I'm posting it...

Why?

For the purpose of ranting of course~ 8D

I was just looking at some of my old art the other day (stuff older than this... most of them as old as the pictures that are on my first video with Puchia and Garuche (07/08-ish... XD)...), as well as old art of other artists/friends... It made me think deeply... "Why are people ashamed to look at their old art?"

Not everybody, but some people just can't stand looking at the thinks they posted when they came here... some even delete them off their page... that's fine... nothing wrong with that... but what's really wrong is forgetting it ever existed and never going back to look at it...

Is it really that bad? I love my old art... I have art from when I was so little and I treasure every single drawing I've made... I treasure every cartoon character I remember... I've said this countless times, but I still remember the name of my first, most important character... Green Circle... She still means so much to me, and without her, I wouldn't have that amazing jumpstart to the many MANY unique and varied characters I have today...

There's no need to feel that way about your old art... and even new art... why be upset about what you draw now? Why even draw? Jealousy shouldn't be the reason why you draw...
Yes, everyone has felt jealous before... "There's always someone better than you."... I can't believe that some people get jealous of me, but trust me, you and I both know there are better artists out there... I try not to show it, but I'm ALWAYS jealous at other artists that I think are better than me or get more attention, but I try to not mention it, or if I do, it's as subtly as possible... I'd never have the guts to actually tell them... maybe because I'm shy? I dunno...

But I honestly turn that jealousy quickly into a drive, or an inspiration to get better... it's not impossible...

I remember when I was younger my drive to draw was the fact that I love drawing... Wasn't that your drive too?... Ever since I joined dA, my drive slowly changed...

I no longer draw to please myself... I draw to please others...

Yeah I'm behind on my requests and art trades but that's not the kind of pleasing others I'm talking about... it's a more subtle way of "pleasing others"...

Every time I get into a new obsession or I notice how someone has taken interest in my art or myself, I strive to draw better... I want to impress the artists that draw in that style... I want to be noticed by them... I strive to master the style of my obsession as closely and as quickly as possible in order to get noticed... my need to be noticed drives me...

Oh well... now you know my secret...

But I don't want that to be my secret drive... I want to be driven by my undying love for art... my undying love for cartoons and my own characters... my undying love for all my special talents...

I hope that slowly I can change that...

In the meantime...

I dare everyone to go to the first picture in their gallery... especially people who have been here for a long time...

I dare you to compare that with one of your latest pieces...

And I dare you to tell me you HAVEN'T improved even the slightest...

If you've only been here for a short time or haven't posted much... find an old drawing you haven't posted and do the same thing...

Or go to one of the last/best pieces you have and say "I plan on redrawing this 3 years from now, and I know I will be an improved artist then..."

Let me boost everyone's ego here and say be proud of what you've drawn... submit it to groups and show others your talents. Not just groups that specify for that kind of art (like if it's a fan art of a cartoon) but other groups as well (like if it's a digital piece submit it to a digital art group)... you may be surprised at how many people look at it... if you've joined here, obviously it means you're a talented person and you wanted to show everyone what you can do... Don't let other artists throw your ego down by their "better" art... cherish what you've drawn and strive to improve... not to be better than others but to be better than yourself...

Remember... even if nobody comments and nobody faves a piece, that doesn't mean nobody has seen it... even people who AREN'T on deviantArt look through art and get inspired by it... for quite some time, I was one of them... many pieces of art (even some that looked weird and horrible) did inspire me and I am grateful for every inspiring artist on dA...
Also take into consideration that it takes some people time to go through every piece in their deviantwatch (like me... DANG IT WHY DO PEOPLE POST SO MUCH? XD)

Eventually I get to the piece, and sometimes I STILL don't comment and fave, but only because I really don't know what to say at the time, and I hate being plain and saying only "awesome" or "nice" or "cool", but sometimes I do, because I feel so bad and I know the person deserves at least SOMETHING... Honestly, to me, short comments like that are equivalent to ing a piece. A real comment deserves a bit more than ONE word (Two words or more perhaps?)

Honestly, I want my comments to be meaningful and something that will help the artist/my friend to improve...

Don't neglect the fave factor... faves are another way for an artist (or at least me) to say "out of all the pictures I've seen today on deviantArt, this one is one of my favorites..."

No matter how small the meaning to it is, it's not to be forgotten or dismissed...

I find it an honor to recieve more faves than comments, despite the fact that I do enjoy comments on my pictures... not that I'm lowering the importance of comments, but people tend to delete the faves they recieve and neglect that people DO pay attention to their art... (I even get that way at times when I see nobody comment on a drawing)... honestly, some people just can't find the right thing to say sometimes. I understand that some people feel the need, like myself, that they want to make meaningful comments instead of stupid ones... I hate it when I get comments like that... not that I don't apreciate them, but if you're going to comment, make it something that is better than simply ing it...

I'm not contradicting myself when I say that... you COMMENT because faving it isn't enough for you... You fave it because you like it but have nothing helpful, ego boosting or meaningful to say to them... when you comment with ONE word, why comment when you can just fave it?

In short... make comments WORTH reading... and do try to comment... Especially on pictures that are drawn by less experienced artists... they need the help much more than I do... It's something we all have to work on...

If they're a new artist on dA or they don't get many comments, then I suppose one word comments are better than nothing... so make good judgement when you comment...

But don't forget that a is also worth recognition and appreciate them too...

To sum it up, be an artist with an ego... not a "super-ego" where you brag about how great you are compared to everyone else or a lack of ego where you complain about how flawed and horrible all your art is compared with everyone else, but enough ego that you can be a better artist in the future and see both shades in the piece of art you have made.

NOTE: I'm not directing this rant at any specific person/ specific people, but rather to the general population of "ego-lacking" artists on dA

We all have little moments when we feel "out-shined", but be strong and always remember that your friends will always support you and your achievements...

Anyway... I really should stop now... I just wanted to let that out...

Why?

I was just looking at some of my old art the other day (stuff older than this... most of them as old as the pictures that are on my first video with Puchia and Garuche (07/08-ish...
