Description
Check out Ryan's profile here: [link]and the profile for Viktor himself: [link]
Looking over each other's drawings I'm seeing more and more differences, such as how Ryan draws Viktor with his shoulders hunched in all three examples, while I always have his shoulders relaxed. That's me missing the body language.

Not officially yet. We've been together five years now. The only thing holding us back is a shitton of bureaucratic stuff because we're both transgender and the CZ doesn't have same sex marriage so just try to organize that shit.

Congratulations. You have no idea how difficult it is for a lot of artist's and writer's to get this. Welcome to the few, the proud, the knowing.

Oh fuck! Now I think of it... that's actually completely right. All my OC's have quite a bit of my character traits, hah!
You know what's also quite typical? All my OC's are male, ALL OF THEM, I used to think it was a bloody conspiracy of my brain or something... could that have been an early giveaway sign of me being trans or do I just like to look at male bodies? XD (which I do, but I like female bodies about equally much. As long as it's not mine, haha!)

It has to do with being trans.
My male characters are the most interesting for me and I forced myself to add interesting women because I can't stand it when there are no women in a cast.
Being both trans AND gay, I can't write women as sexual fantasies since I don't fantasize about them. I see them as people.

Now I think of it, I have one female character too, but I just don't like her as much as the others, and she doesn't have as much depth, etc. I think it's a shame, I don't dislike women at all, but I somehow want to identify myself with my OC's or something...
But yeah, if I would write a story with them I'd add some women too, otherwise it would be a rather male-dominated universe, lol!

Oh my god this is so true it hurts!! :')
I know I do this all the time, every time I create a new character, a small part of me always gets unintentionally put into them. I think that its something that we all do, even if we don't mean to, just because its how we view the world or how we always function.

See, when it's your own creation that's okay imho. I do that with all my characters and it helps me get into their brains a whole lot, making them more developed people.
Sometimes it's good to distance ourselves, especially when the characters are not your own.

Very true. It definitely helps find ways to develop your own characters especially in ways that make sense to you, and to keep your own opinions with other peoples characters.

This is very true, and while some of the things we give our characters are obvious to us and to others (=I have trust problems so I will make that a problem for my characters as well), other, like the case here, are so subtle and so difficult to notice because our way is our prism through which we perceive the world.
I have another idea why this happened. Perhaps it's the case of having a romantic couple rped/created with another person? You are aware of Viktor's personality, but you also perceive him as being good to Quentin, so it makes him a friendlier person in your eyes?
*goes to tell =iisjah to draw an evil-ish Blady*

I've very certain that's what caused my confusion. I see his relationship to Quen as the more dominant aspect of Viktor's character, even though he is a different person with Quen than he is with others.
heehee, evil-ish Blady

I took a look at this again and I know. Your Viktor needs a piano. The one with the piano looks just so awesomnely sophistically sinister

I just realized something when reading your comment - I have no idea how to write sinister characters. All my villains are relatable and seem like normal people, which to me makes them more scary.
Viktor's character was intended to be evil but Ryan and I just couldn't write him as evil - he turned out sad and bitter instead.
However, I rather like that. Again, he looks like a typical villain when he's in fact the love interest.

Very true. I remember seeing an interview with Faulkner's wife in which she said that she initially was curious and a bit jealous of the female characters he wrote. She wondered who they were based on: former loves, or acquaintances, or that. Then she realized, after many years, that all of his female characters were him. It had been in front of her the whole time.

hmm... i'm not sure how i feel about that. of course, every time i told my art teacher/mentor i was concerned that people could read my psyche based on my drawings and ideas, she told me, "Naaaah!" which, i suspect was just to placate me and keep me from not doing art. : X
but now my big question to you is... can you now properly draw viktor?

CAPTAIN-CAPSLOCK-PHD In reply to Bloodsong13T [2013-03-26 03:58:55 +0000 UTC]
Oh, you should TOTALLY pay attention to the subjects you choose to write about. It's nearly impossible to make a creative work without it reflecting something deep within you.
I'm not sure if I can properly draw him now, but I want to try.

That epiphany actually makes for good writing. All of your characters will usually have a bit of you in them. At some point, you need to draw the line between yourself and your characters. As someone who's taken drama, I've learned to really get into characters and how much I can add to them without changing the overall image I have for them. Maybe you can try thinking more about it that way. This character is supposed to be like this, I'm not like this but I can always talk to someone else about what it's like. Take what you learn, incorporate parts of that into the character and then stop to think to yourself every time you see that character seems to be acting out of character.
