The Conversation

It was just a simple conversation during lunch. I went out to the tree like I had done so many times. It was January 21st; a cold, cloudless day, but I still liked sitting in the tree because it gave me a sense of comfort that I couldn’t seem to explain. I had a simple lunch, a burger with fries on a tray, and plain milk, because I felt that chocolate distracted from the taste of the entrée.
I was sitting there thinking. Thinking about the semester ahead; about things like what classes I would take, and what friends would be in those classes with me. I was getting used to changing every half-year, because I had been doing it along with my other classmates for about three years now.
While I was going over my schedule I heard someone coming, and when I looked I saw that it was one of my friends, Kari. We had been friends ever since sixth grade when we had the same teacher.
As she came closer I calmly said “Hello.” She asked me what I was doing and I said that I was just going over my classes for next year. I then inquired about what classes she picked, and she told me that she would be taking more arts based classes than last year.
“I had considered taking an art class, but I didn’t think it was right for me,” I mumbled.
“You should. I’ve seen you drawing, and you’re pretty good at it. I think you would do well in a drawing class,” She told me.
“Yeah? I guess so. What block is it in?” I asked.
“Sixth, you could take it with me if you want,” She replied.
“I think that’ll work; if I just move around a few other classes. I think it’ll be fun to just work on projects instead of worrying about tests,”
“Good, I think I’ll have fun next semester too,”
With that she walked away leaving me to finish my lunch with just my thoughts to keep me company. I ate the rest of my meal, and after some consideration of what the new year would bring, I decided to draw an illustration of the scene, trying new ways just like I would be trying a new set of classes.
