Description
The Comet-Class Starship was strong contender for the fifth Federation vessel to carry the name U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), but Starfleet Operations ultimately decided to construct the Galaxy-Class Starship as the flagships of Starfleet's Armada. However the Comet-Class Starship proved in its own right as a more then adequate replacement for the Resolute-Class Starships prior to the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2366. In early 2369 after the discovery of the Bajor Wormhole by then Commander Benjamin Sisco and the late Lieutenant Jadzeia Dax, Starfleet had dispatched the U.S.S. Explorer (NCC-70175) as the first Federation vessel to explorer the Gamma Quadrant for only one month. Other then a more detailed star charts for the sector surrounding the worm hole and fascinating data on a species called the Karimah, the Explorer also brought back vague stories about a future threat...The Dominion.
In 2371, under the command of Captain Sarah David, the U.S.S. Ramon (NCC-71009) along with the U.S.S. Resolute (NCC-2801-A) was assigned for a three month patrol of the badlands and the surrounding area along the Cardassian-Federation Demilitarized zone in search for the missing U.S.S. Voyager.
