Description (In the Langston Universe)

After the successful trial runs of the Andromeda-Class, in 2360; the same development team went to work on the Magellan-Class explorer. Similarly designed to the Andromeda-class, the Magellan supplemented the Andromeda-class in the Armada. Unlike its counterpart, the Magellan-class was placed into more of scientific research, deep space exploratory, colonial transport, medical relief, and support roles. Her Mission pod could even be supplemented with ease to accommodate modular configurations of sensors, hospital, cargo, civilian transport, and eventually tactical. The Magellan was utilized in Starfleet in experimenting with modular tech and newer systems.

By 2373, the Magellan-class was converted into full tactical roles during the Dominion War, proving to be just as effective in combat.

One the staples in my AU is the elongated nacells which were original to Gene Roddenberry's production notes in STNG Season 1. and this is still a WIP, btw...I'm nod done with the top portion of the ortho or the lore behind this class of ship yet

Looking at it, the one thing different from the Nebula that I immediately notice is that the width between the nacelles is wider than on a Nebula class.  It looks great but it really seems like 99% the same as the Nebula.

According to some of the Beta meteral; There is a Magellan-Sub class with in the Nebula-class that was strictly ment for exploration and research.
