Β Now there's a ship whose canonicity is sitting on both sides of the fence. She can't actually be a Galaxy class, or that would open up a whole can of worms of Starfleet reusing class names (and might get confusing rather fast. On the other hand, she was mentioned in the novelization, so technically, she is canon.

Β I'm honestly in the camp that even with the shortened Excelsior nacelles and Constellation hull, she looks like a kitbash, but oh well.

One of those odd is/isn't classes. Vance likes kitbashing.

Β True, and he does a good job of it.

If only the Enterprise A'sΒ Nacelles would have looked like theΒ Excelsior nacelles.

Would have been interesting to see on screen.

Wouldn't the saucer have to be monstrously thick- comparable to the Constellation class cruiser's- to accommodate a shuttle large enough to be useful in day-to-day operations?

captshade In reply to ArmamentDawg [2014-02-13 23:04:35 +0000 UTC]

Not really. The Constellation's were actually bigger than normal.

Personally, I never liked the "saucer full of shuttlebays" look of this type. Β Nowhere for crew quarters, labs, etc if it's full of bays.

Nice job, I just thought of something, How about you can Make TNG era ships in TMP form, Maybe it could present a Challenge. You don't have to, Like I said It's just a Thought.

Working on it.

Though, some ships don't translate well. And others already have their counterparts (Galaxy = Constitution/Excelsior, Nebula = Marco Polo, etc).

Of the few that work, some have already been done by others.

I never thought of it that way

It simply would have made sense for the Excelsior style nacelles to have been included on the Enterprise-A...such a missed opportunity...

The only thing I have to point out is that the novelization you speak of states the Galaxy had reached the Andromeda Galaxy... how is it that Starfleet was able to go extra-galactic in 2285, but the Voyager was screwed by having to go a 'mere' 70,000 light years in 2371? Retcon can be so much fun...

The novelization was written before the PTB at Paramount ordered everyone to stop referring to Transwarp.

No kidding. Don't forget the Enterprise's trip in "Star Trek V"

Maybe transwarp worked for a little while, but they forgot to activate their Full Version copy and had service cut off.

Nice design! I wonder if she's the inspiration for the so-called "Galactic Survey Cruiser" we saw in Starfleet Battles board games and the Starfleet Command II computer game...?

Well, she was designed intergalactic travel and was named after galaxies. Also, this was before TNG series came out.

Makes sense, its a nice interpretation of the "Federation Galaxy Ship" mentioned in the novel.

I also imagined it to be some sort of heavy Connie variant with extra equipment.

Perhaps if the ends of the nacelles had more of an end to them, but they wouldn't be Excelsior nacelles at that point. It's a pretty neat design anyway.

Not my design...And it was a request. So I had to keep to the actual design.

Stubby Excelsior nacelles on a Connie with a "double stuff" saucer...Just a tad odd.
