Description
Β© Greg Gibbs. You may NOT use, replicate, manipulate, or modify this image without my permission. All Rights Reserved.I have a plan to produce a reasonably detailed all sky image. I have collected a few panels for the mosaic so far and I will hopefully finish this section of the Milky Way soon. I couldn't resist throwing what I have got so far into my panorama software. After my computer groaned away for a while it spat out this 1.2 Gig image.
A few quick adjustments and massive size reduction later, I give you my work in progress. There are some obvious colour issues there which I will need to try and tune out of the final image but pretty happy with the detail level so far. I suspect I am going to need a bigger computer to finish this project though.

Thank you No I do not offer the full res image just yet. Once I finish the project it may be available to view online somewhere. Stay tuned.....

would be similar to the gigapixel project that lets you zoom right down into the milkway

Absolutely stunning! An amazing idea to produce that type of image! With how big this is already a full sky image may just be able to envelop your house Amazing job really! Maybe you should get an external drive to hold such a massive piece?

CapturingTheNight In reply to MyLifeInFocus [2012-11-01 19:34:37 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much Yeah it would print absolutely massive once completed. Storage isn't an issue, I already have three external hard drives. It's more the processing power that I am lacking. Takes ages just to even load the image.

Sure thing! Hey you could stick it on a billboard for advertisement And ok that makes sense haha, I'm used to my lack of storage slowing down my speed so that was my first though
wish you the best!

I have no words that could explain how much I love this. This is easily the most intense detail I've ever seen of the Milky Way. It is so beautiful. Absolutely amazing.

That is the best WIP I've ever seen. So, so, so beautiful.
BTW, have you ever put your work in Astronomy magazine? I'm dead certain they'd accept it in a heartbeat if you submitted it.
