The Aurora Australis put on a brief but spectacular display last night. From my -35 degree latitude the best I could manage was the higher level pinks and reds, whilst those further south in Tasmania and elsewhere had some wonderful greens dancing through the sky. I took a test shot from my front door and the entire southern horizon was lit up with high altitude aurora. I quickly jumped in my car and headed just a couple of minutes up the road from my house to my favorite road sign hoping the aurora would strengthen even further. But it had already died down significantly and a few minutes later it was all gone.
