From left to right- My garage; the central bulge of the Milky Way; me standing around a fire drum; just to the right of the drum you might be able to make out my NEQ6 Pro Telescope Mount with one of my other cameras on it capturing some widefield images (stay tuned); Small and Large Magellanic Clouds (Dwarf Satellite Gallaxies) are the two brighter patches in the sky just to the left of the large tree; bright pink area above that tree in the plane of the Milky Way is the Eta Carina Nebula; Glow on the horizon is from a city about 100km (65 miles) away; greenish/reddish/brownish patches in the sky is airglow and is caused by high energy particles reacting with natural oxyegen in the upper atmosphere.

I love the fact that you can tell us what space objects are in your photos, then explain where the colors come from in the atmosphere. When I do space art I wonder about the colors I'm using-- if they're actually out there in space somewhere, and if they are, what elements are floating around making those colors. I guess I'm just curious about things like this, rather than throwing randomly colored nebula clouds on my canvas and calling it good.

You must live away from cities to see such a beautiful sky. It's amazing how perfectly you can make a photo of Milky Way. Do you use for this only your Canon?

Thank you Yes I am lucky enough to live well away from any city lights. And yes only a camera and simple tripod was used to make this.

Spectacular, Greg. Would you tell me what settings you use for your beautiful Milky Way photos? I've tried but all I get are streaky blurs. I thought a tracking system was needed.
