I have been wanting to shoot from this location for years and years and I was lucky enough to get permission from the landowner a few days ago. It is hard to tell from the image but I was standing on the edge of a cliff with spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Over 180 degree panorama made from 12 individual images (6 x 2 rows) showing the full Southern Hemisphere view of the Milky Way at this time of year and also featuring the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds and the Zodiacal Light. 20/09/2014

Is it really a photo?
Not edited?
It's amazing! I can't believe it's a photo

Yes it is a real photo(s). The long exposure of the camera brings out all the natural colours in the night sky from a truly dark sky area. It has of course been edited slightly to bring out more detail (contrast, levels, etc) but there is nothing fake in the image.

Oh man, that milky way should be on the northern hemisphere, but I guess that would be slightly unfair with all the aurora and stuff.
Really nice capture, love how you have tackled the city lights.

Wow! Well worth the hike up there!
This came out really well. The Zodiacal Light was very impressive. We'll get back up there again for a proper shoot, possibly with a bit more daylight to spare.
Hope all is well Greg
