Description
For making inkjet charms!~~~~~
Extras:
■ If you want a backside to your charm, make sure you line up the images correctly so that the backside is an INVERSE of the front side. If you simply do a horizontal image flip, it might not be perfectly aligned so make sure the border width on all sides remains the same. If it isn't, be sure to measure and change accordingly!
■ Your shrinky dink sheets may curl when you are CUTTING them. Like when you cut tough corners and the scissors bend the plastic. It's hard to describe but if you've done it, you will notice
Materials:
■ You can get most of the materials in an arts & crafts store. If there isn't one near you, you can find these items on Amazon.com! Just make sure you get them from a reputable seller!
Fonts:
■ Titles: Got heroin?
■ Body Text: Turkeyface
Answered Questions:
[1] Why do I need to lower the opacity?
■ Because when the charms bake, they will darken and regain their color saturation. 50% is the instructed opacity change!
[2] What is the pixel size of this specific canvas for the charms?
■ 2975 x 3850 px (You take the dimensions in inches, and multiply by the dots-per-inch resolution [in this case it's 8.5 x 350, 11 x 350])

In pixels, what size did you use? for the whole sheet. o:
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Capukat In reply to Chocolace [2014-10-27 00:58:46 +0000 UTC]
That would be 8.5 inches x 350dpi for width to get
2975 pixels
and 11 x 350dpi for height to get
3850 pixels
so 2975 x 3850

hello!! i heard that when shrinky dinks are out in the oven it tends to curl up like crazy,,
I've drawn on some shrinky dink paper recently, and I was wondering how should I tackle the curling part ? are there any specific objects I should be using? I've seen people trying to uncurl it but they ended up making dents and bending the plastics and they ruined everything ;;n;;

Capukat In reply to qears [2014-10-27 00:57:13 +0000 UTC]
Ah if they curl in the oven, I suggest leaving them for a while to see if they'll flatten again!
I would use really heavy textbooks or something! And even push on those!
And yeah don't uncurl using your hands! Bad idea XD
Sometimes if you're cutting them you might curl the plastic while cutting fine corners, be careful of that!

Thank you for this!! uvu
I'll have to order the Shrinky Dinks online...but other then that I have everything.
Could you make a charm with these for a necklace too? It would be neat if I could make one of my fursona to wear around.

Again, thanks so much for the turtorial, I was finally able to make my own macnroo.deviantart.com/art/Pla…
I might add to it though that the charms curl up in the oven then flatten out. Not sure if I'm just that dumb but on my first try I took them out when they started curling because I thought that was bad and ended up with little spoons xD

Capukat In reply to MacNroo [2014-08-09 02:05:14 +0000 UTC]
Oh no problem at all! I'm glad it worked!!
And lol yeah they will initially curl a LOT so you just leave them until they flatten! Once it stops moving then you know it's done!

great tutorial! one question though, if your charm is bent when you take it out of the oven dose it matter how you put something on it to apply pressure to fix it? Like will the ink come off at all?

This was very useful
I have one question: would it be optimum to use white sheets of the shrink plastic, or the clear opaque kind?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Capukat In reply to MiraiParasol [2014-07-11 17:46:19 +0000 UTC]
I don't believe there's the clear kind for inkjet ones? I think those are the ones where you draw on them directly but I may be wrong.. I have not tried those before!
For inkjet shrinky dinks, these are the only and best kind I know of !

MiraiParasol In reply to Capukat [2014-07-11 19:53:15 +0000 UTC]
I was doing some searching and there actually are clear inkjet ones. Done by grafix, so I was wondering if there was any translucence after you baked them.
Lately though there seems to be a lot of faulty product being shipped so I was a little bit weary ;w;
but knowing that you reinforce the shrink dink brand puts me at ease. Thanks for responding!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Capukat In reply to MiraiParasol [2014-07-15 04:07:37 +0000 UTC]
Oh I see.. well it is completely opaque after baking! Even if initially you can see through it!
I haven't tried grafix but I hear shrinky dinks are generally the best option! Though I'm sure those would work well too?
And no problem!
I guess one problem that's commonly run in to is curled up charms. You have to be careful not to bend the plastic very much when cutting corners.. if that sorta makes sense.. x.x
But I suppose the best advice is experience itself !

^^ what kind fo brush do you use to apply the mod podge? When I used a paint brush it went streaky, what brush would you recommend ^^
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Capukat In reply to Rising-At-Midnight [2014-07-08 02:04:13 +0000 UTC]
If you really want to have the smoothest coat, I suggest using a palette knife. However that can be tricky and result to uneven distribution of the sealant :/
Otherwise I use the flat foam brush in the picture! It's still a bit streaky but not as noticeable!

Rising-At-Midnight In reply to Capukat [2014-07-08 04:26:42 +0000 UTC]
oh man ^^ i didnt notice the foam brush! Oopsies. Is the foam brush easy enough to clean?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Capukat In reply to Rising-At-Midnight [2014-07-15 04:09:49 +0000 UTC]
Ah well you sorta have to be quick about washing them right away after using. Preferably no more than 5 minutes after you're done!
Then you just use some handsoap and water and make sure to get all the stuff out until you can squeeze out clear water out of it
...
wow I'm bad at describing
