Description ok, I took pictures, I didn't scan, that why some picks are blurry T_T sorry about that.

This is my first tutorial, so be gentle nyuuu

and english isn't my first language, so there's mistakes, I know, I just hope that you'll be able to understand...

People ask why I star with the light colors and not the dark one. Some will say I'm drawing for nothing, but I'm not. The color blends together making the colors go darker.

done with faber castells. I wrote the flesh color numbers.

the finished drawing here! [link]

hope you guys will find it usefull! ^^

Destinneena In reply to careko [2011-08-28 17:33:29 +0000 UTC]

okay I think I see now. Do you think it would work the same with prisma pencils? and where do you get the fibercasters?

I'm still trying to fid the best midea for me to color with.

careko In reply to Destinneena [2011-08-28 17:41:06 +0000 UTC]

it works with primsma colors too. but it's sure that the polychromos (fabercastel) will give a better rendering

okay thank you, I used to use those old kid pencils, (forgot the brand name) but I always needed them for school, but they didn't give what I needed in my art.

Thanks so much~
All the tutorials here are mostly for digital drawings, its really hard to find one like this. Im defiantly going to try my hand at coloring.. (and maybe, drawing, lol because i really not that good )

I do have one question though, how do you decide where the reflections to the hair go?
Thanks~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to MagicKat13 [2010-12-27 22:40:28 +0000 UTC]

actually I decide where me light will come from, then put the reflections wher the light comes from

I don't get what the invert colors are.. What does it mean??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to sakura-star16 [2010-12-19 01:07:58 +0000 UTC]

I donred = green
blue = orange
purple = yellow

you use those colors to shade the other one darker (ex: to do a darker red, instead of adding black, you add green)

Quick question, do you use the 120 set or the 60 set? I was thinking about purchasing one but since I already have a 72 set prismacolor I wasn't sure which one was better in terms of faber castell...Does the 120 give a broader range with less grays?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to Susaleena [2010-10-15 12:06:05 +0000 UTC]

I have both the 60 and 120 case (but the 120 have the same 60 in it) there's about 5 grays in the 120 box.

honestly, I prefer the faber castells, the blend really easily next to the prismacolors. just with smooth paper, you can have great results with prismacolors too tho. (try a smooth 100mg paper)

Oh wow that's a lot Thank you! I'll try them out because I've heard so many great things about them Thanks again and keep up the beautiful artwork that you make

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to Susaleena [2010-10-15 16:31:24 +0000 UTC]

no prob and thank you^^

and just the fact that you change paper makes a big difference too.^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Susaleena In reply to careko [2010-10-15 16:51:33 +0000 UTC]

That is so true, I think I'm not using the right type of paper. I bought drawing paper but it's "fine tooth" so I guess it's not as smooth as it should be

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to Susaleena [2010-10-15 16:58:50 +0000 UTC]

it's easier to use heavy paper, if the paper is too thin, you'll have troubles blending (maybe not troubles, but with regular printing paper, if you press too hard and alot of times you can go thru the paper -_-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Susaleena In reply to careko [2010-10-16 06:36:28 +0000 UTC]

You're right, I broke some papers before by pressing too hard Thank you so much for your input It really helps me learn a lot and I think you're so talented with color pencils I aspire to draw and color like you someday (hopefully lol)

Temmy1212 [2010-04-28 01:17:44 +0000 UTC]

Wow!!, that'll help soooo much!!! Did you have more than one pencil crayon for the skin or did you use the same one??? Also, how do keep the colouring so smooth??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

careko In reply to Temmy1212 [2010-04-28 04:10:44 +0000 UTC]

for the skin the number of the pencils I used are written.

the kind of paper helps alot since it's heavy. and press hard on the pencils so there it's grains left

Your colouring is awesome but boy does that looks tedious and patience testing but I'll fav anyway, it should make a great reference next time I want to try to colour something in.
