Description Dark characters who look perfect on my own monitor always end up looking too dark on library monitors.

This is a fan character of the Langurhali, a mutant cat species created by Vera. [link]
There’s also a club devoted to them at [link]

Character's name: “Dr.” Rory Alimentado

Age/sex: 23, Male.

Height/tail length/horn length: 5 feet and 8 inches tall. Tail length is 17 feet when fully stretched out. Horns are eleven inches.

Ideal place in nature: A tropical forest full of exotic plants and fungi he can gather for his concoctions, or a cool underground cave in which he can work and rest.

Clothing/accessory style: His only garment is a faded, tattered old lab coat, patched with blue and orange striped fabric. He wears glasses with golden metallic frames, which he altered to accommodate his third eye. He likes to decorate his hair with beads and electric Christmas lights, lit by a small, primitive solar-powered generator. He wears a string of gold beads around his lower leg, and a thin golden chain around his neck, to which he sometimes attaches a small glass vial of potion.

Favorite food: Hot, comforting things that are mainly soft or fluid. Hot drinks, soups, stews, porridge, and similar foods.

Favorite color(s): Green, gold, and blood red.

Features that stand out: A few feet away from his body, his tail splits into two separate tails that move independently. He has black fur with a wide cream colored stripe running from his nose, up his face, down his back and down his two tails in a skunk-like pattern. He also has a mild but pungent musky odor, suggesting some skunk genes. He has cream-colored markings on his inner thighs. He has a third eye on his forehead. His eyes are large and colored green, yellow and red. His tongue is pink, but blue skin and flesh is visible in his nose, inner ears, paw pads, gums, inner mouth, and the edges of his eyes. His inner ears are striped with a slightly darker blue.
His large ears droop downward enough to give him a dog-like appearance. He has long white whiskers and a mane of long, thick dreadlocks. He has an extra thumb on each hand. His horns are relatively large and curve foreward in a sort of cornucopia shape. He is not particularly large or tall as far as male Langurhali go.

Background and personality: Rory was one of the later generations of Langurhali, who grew up in the safety of New Willora. He went into puberty before most of his peers. He never grew particularly tall, but developed large horns, a long mane, and a deep voice at a relatively young age, making him feel self-conscious and awkward. Some Willorians who didn’t know him well thought he was older than he really was, and chided him for his childish behavior. These days, he’s still somewhat socially awkward but generally upbeat. He’s known by his raucous, hyena-like laugh, which he sometimes lets out at odd, inappropriate times. This is just his natural way of releasing tension.

Rory hates physical fighting—not because he is weak, or a pacifist, but because he is very physically sensitive and has quite a low pain threshold. Even a gentle touch feels weird and overly stimulating to him, so he tries to avoid physical contact with others.

From the time he was little, he was fascinated by the older Langurhali’s stories of humans and the outside world. Now a young adult, he snaps up any human artifact he can possibly get, particularly treasuring medical and chemistry texts, antique vials and bottles, vinyl records and record players, and Christmas-themed things. He prefers to be addressed as “Dr. Rory” even though he earned no such title. He believes that his true calling is to be a healer. However, he is an utter quack with obsolete and unorthodox ideas about biology and medicine, influenced largely by the old human books in his collection, with a dash of his own imagination. He fancies himself an apothecary, and loves concocting potions, lotions and powders that allegedly treat and cure all kinds of ailments.

You're right--it is too dark. Try using a dark gray next time instead, or make some of the lines white or light gray. Aside from that problem, which you already know about, I think it looks really good. The colors and highlihgts are very well placed, and the background looks great.

Digitally coloring dark colors is my eternal struggle. I did TRY to use dark gray instead of black, but it turned out TOO dark anyway. >_>
Thanks for the kind words. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this picture because it's fan art of a species created by an artist whom I consider to be miles ahead of me artistically. I wanted to challenge myself, and I wanted her to like it when I showed it to her (she did).

Swwooow.... I love this pick A LOT!!!
Everything about him has that scruffy werewolfish quality about it, from his thick dreads to his tattered and patched clothes (and does he have LEDs in his hair or something?

His tail is so textural, and his horns a awesome too, but I love above all else is his eyes, all three of them, how you've got the rainbow effect to go just perfectly around his pupil...

Thank you. He's definitely more wild and animalistic looking than most of my characters. I was inspired a lot by v-e-r-a's character design and style. The texturing on his tail was an experiment with the paintbrush and blending tool that didn't turn out quite like I wanted, but it was cool nonetheless.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of lights those are. >_> My best explanation was that they're normal electric Christmas lights, powered by a small solar-powered generator.

I'm a sucker for rainbow and multi-colored eyes. I think I just started with the green and then airbrushed a ring of yellow, then a ring of red around the pupil.

You're welcome I wish I had some rougher looking characters... but I'll just stick to what I've got for now... I never create characters just for the sake of having them... i think the experiment with the tail worked very well in my opinion... but yes... we are our own worst critic after all aren't we?

pretty much the same as christmas tree lights only smaller...

I love my colours as well... I really should start wearing more colours... but I never get around to it...

You have a Macbook? I'm jealous.

Thank you. As you probably guessed, I named him after the reggae singer Dr. Alimantado (I spelled the name wrong when I named the character ).
I really like his song "Born For A Purpose." I'm disappointed that I can't find the lyrics online.

yes I have a macbook but I think it's pure luck because my daddy works with these machines in his job for more than 15 years now. so I had the opportunity to live almost the whole apple history and I'm grateful for that. unfortunately apple has changed pretty much nowadays, but nevertheless makes great computers and a great operating system.

oh, I got to listen to that song, lemme just make a note
