Description
Making a new Green Man Light Switch mold. I use Polytek 2 part Silicone rubber for many of my pieces & Sulpher free clay, so the silicone is not inhibited, (Monster Clay is a new favorite of mine). To apply the silicone, I like to drizzle a fine stream off the rubber over the pattern so it flows into all the details and does not trap air bubbles, then after the surface is covered fill the form so it will sit level when right side up. With this mold, I poured it in, making a
solid block of rubber without a mother shell...cost more but saves time.

That is great sharing the process too. What are your thoughts on 3D printing? Right now it doesn't seem to effect these processes, and it is not up to the detail a mold is (at least only a really expensive printer seems to be.), but I would anticipate that when the technology becomes more available, it will change the game. You can change size scale and medium very easily.

Yes, 3D printing will definitely be changing how a lot of commercial sculpture is done!
I think, we will probably see more companies setting up shop that will print your digital files and ship them to you.
As with any tool, it will have certain uses it's best for and be good for some people, but there
will always be those who prefer the traditional approach.
Personally would love to try one out, I can imagine it helping me add to my capabilities!
It may become part of the process, but I cant see it replacing what I already do,
beside... playing with clay is fun!

I would agree that the organic process probably has a more organic look. I guess for certain things it may be handy- particularly mass production and utilizing different mediums.
