Description As promised, because I love you people:

My proportions tutorial!

Since every drawing is unique, I explained the techniques I used. It's up to you to practice them, yay!

You know... sometimes it makes me wonder why I keep posting tutorials since there are still a couple of people out there who say "I give people false hope" or "everything's fake anyway".

But when I read all the comments of fellow artists, e-mails of art students or people who just happened to come across my gallery and private notes of people who are happy to see my tutorials and find them really useful, I just melt!

And you know what? Even some art teachers are using my tutorials for school assignments after they've asked for my permission, lol!

What a strange world we live in.

----------------------------------------------

It's a shame I just don't have the time to publish my art book yet, but someday I will...

Have fun everyone and keep up the good work!
If there are any questions left, please feel free to note me about it!

I'll say. You really have to change the way you think in order to draw well.

Much of what you wrote out is exactly the pointers that I use when I teach. Regardless, I'm glad you wrote this out. Wonderful tutorial!

Thank you! Hey that's awesome I bet you know quite some different techniques aside from the ones I explained too eh?

*grins* Yes, I guess so. I tend to figure out steps tailored to the ability of my classes. Most of them have never dealt with art before, and think they have to be born with a special skill. Then I demonstrate that in a sense they've been drawing all their lives without realizing it. But for those who are pursuing an art path, the techniques involve more steps and suggestions, of course, but I also have to give them enough room to find their own unique style.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is convincing their parents -- and themselves -- that Art is not a silly waste of time. (My students are aged 13 thru 18, btw.)

agreed, art shouldn't be considered as a waste of time, while so many people think so. It's a great therapy, it's makes you feel relaxed and good about yourself. If art is a waste of time, then so does sports!

Hey, thanks... great tutorial. I noticed the mirror thing a couple of years ago and I was shocked at how much my drawings changed in the mirror once I thought they were good enough.

I must admit I don't necessarily use the mirror very often but thanks for reminding me. I'll use it for the big pieces.

By the way in the mirror section Tips.2 i can't help it but point out you spelt buy wrong -___- sorry. didn't mean to embarrass you or put you down...just it's itching in my head i can't stop staring at it. Wow thanks again

I'm awful at proportions. 9_9 This should help - thank you!

Why the heck do people say you give us 'false hope'? What does that even mean? :S

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cataclysm-X In reply to Dagger-13 [2009-02-08 15:20:11 +0000 UTC]

lol well, some say my tutorials aren't real so that whenever someone thinks it would be nice to use one of the techniques I explained in a tutorial, I'm giving them false hope because those techniques aren't real.

Makes me wonder why the hell someone would do such thing in the first place anyway. lol, I'm only trying to help people!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dagger-13 In reply to Cataclysm-X [2009-02-08 16:50:20 +0000 UTC]

Yay you did it
I must say IΒ΄ve never used a grid
I donΒ΄t know why
Hmmm.. I think I didnΒ΄t used it becaus it would be too much work to erase all these grids

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cataclysm-X In reply to Angelstorm-82 [2009-02-08 15:20:59 +0000 UTC]

I don't use grids either except for drawing large drawings of objects but I wanted to add it to the tutorial anyway

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Angelstorm-82 In reply to Cataclysm-X [2009-02-08 20:06:56 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... alright
Btw I will make a new tutorial too. One of them includes a proportion tut . That means perfect lineart without a grid in every size you want to draw .

I tend to use grids if I'm not used to the angle of something, or I can't get the sketch to work...
I think I'm going to have a go at some of these techniques, they look like they could be really helpful...

&& you're absolutely right about taking a break and come back after a couple minutes. You can always see immediately the mistake when you return. Though I do have a few drawings which just don't sit right with me for some reason. >.>

Great tutorial, saw it in the popular listings and without even clicking on it I knew it was yours. ... I think it was the layout and colours. Then I looked closer and was able to recognise some of the art in it. haha.

Congrats on the teachers using it. xD I wish some of my old art teachers had things like this to help us.

Thank you so much! Yeah I'm still quite amazed some teachers use it too
