Description As promised, because I love you people:

My proportions tutorial!

Since every drawing is unique, I explained the techniques I used. It's up to you to practice them, yay!

You know... sometimes it makes me wonder why I keep posting tutorials since there are still a couple of people out there who say "I give people false hope" or "everything's fake anyway".

But when I read all the comments of fellow artists, e-mails of art students or people who just happened to come across my gallery and private notes of people who are happy to see my tutorials and find them really useful, I just melt!

And you know what? Even some art teachers are using my tutorials for school assignments after they've asked for my permission, lol!

What a strange world we live in.

----------------------------------------------

It's a shame I just don't have the time to publish my art book yet, but someday I will...

Have fun everyone and keep up the good work!
If there are any questions left, please feel free to note me about it!

Oh even jouw tekening bekijken...

SableIllusions [2009-02-07 09:10:13 +0000 UTC]

It's very interesting to see the techiniques other artists use I figured the gridding one because it's how I draw photorealistic things, but I never would have guessed the line ones! That's a pretty neat technique

haha well I'm glad you think so! It always works for me barely can draw anything proportional without using those lines

Thank you for this tutorial! I always draw on free hand, that's why my drawings suck. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna use some of your techniques next time.

Your tutorials are great and very helpful, even if I`m no portrait drafts(wo)man.
They can be used as a guidelines for Comic and Manga artwork, too.
My Mirrortechnique is turning the paper and holding it against a light source

Don`t be mad about those jealous people, you do a great job and all the praise you get is deserved.

omg! wow!
you have no idea how helpful that was!!!!
i normally draw EVERYTHING freehand.
mostly because i didnt think of using other techniques.... well i knew abt gridding but it didnt really seem like my style.... the mirroring is really cool! i have to try that out! did you learn to draw at a school? your the best!

thanks so much!

AloraKitten In reply to ??? [2009-02-07 05:32:18 +0000 UTC]

This is great! I do the a similar thing to 'mirroring', what I call the upside down technique. Basically, if a drawing looks perfect upside down, chances are something it wrong with it rightside up!! Awesome tips, and an excellent tutorial!

I wonder about the people who say "everything's fake anyway." Do they mean your drawings are fake? Because if that's the case, that is really sad.

All my drawings are done freehand, but recently I was thinking of trying other techniques to make them more accurate to the references. I hated having to do grids in an art class assignment, but just using a few proportional lines was helpful in my across the universe drawing. Unfortunately a big part of me always rejects those techniques out of stubborness to continue freehand. >.<

Great stuff! I use the mirror and eye length technique myself but I seldom use the shapes or grid technique. They are too time consuming (I'm actually just lazy! LOL) Thanks for posting up your tutorials. It's always fun to learn something new!

"You know... sometimes it makes me wonder why I keep posting tutorials since there are still a couple of people out there who say "I give people false hope" or "everything's fake anyway""

People actually say that to you? That's horrible. You don't give false hope. You are inspirational. Your art is brilliant and it inspires me to try harder on my portraits, even though I haven't done one for months...still. You are a wonderful artist. Thank you so much for your insightful tutorials. They are exceptionally well-done and you clearly know what you're doing with a pencil.

Keep it up. You're brilliant!

omg yet another wonderful tutorial, they help me so much!

i've been really lazy lately and i haven't been doing any realistic portraits but i think i may try out some of these new techniques, well i should really TRY A technique, you see i think the reason now why my drawings look weird is because i always use just free hand to draw them :S

LokiHeimdallFreya In reply to ??? [2009-02-06 23:46:24 +0000 UTC]

Most of my higher up artworks are done in freehand with a reference image (such as my Dark Magician girl drawing and my Mick Jagger Drawing). I find this very useful indeed whe it comes to features of the face which I sometimes have trouble with.

jjara In reply to ??? [2009-02-06 23:45:25 +0000 UTC]

this is quite inspiring for most... I always draw free hand, which is most amusing of all, using grid is so boring and I don't think it teaches you anything... I'm trying to improve but without using rulers and so... drawing super realistic portraits from pictures is the most non-creative kind of art so I guess using grid makes it mechanical and sort of blue-collar... don't understand me wrong, I am a big fan of yours, and thanks for sharing!
