Last Saturday night, I up and died
Don't ask me what happened, baby don't ask why
All I know is I awakened on the other side
It was some kind of weird, baby, some kind of ride

I was greeted by a guy in an angel suit
He goes "Now tell me your story girl, what did you do?"
So I told about the good and the bad times too,
He goes "Step aside, hon...I gotta think about you..."

A little while later, he calls my name
He says "I got a few things I kinda gotta explain,
See, I can't send you staight to Heven on account of what you did,
But you can't go to Hell, now shoot, you're just a kid!

So we've got a little place, kind of in-between,
Where you'll spend a little time 'til your slate is clean
So hey, here's wishing you a pleasant stay,
May I recommend...the Purgatory Cafe."

We got deviled ham sandwiches and angel food cake
And hot black coffee, but make no mistake,

This might take a little while, you might have a little wait
But the company is friendly and the food is great.

Now, week after week and wouldn't you know
You see the longer I stay, the more I don't wanna go
You see, Heaven is sounding just a little low-key
And that new-age music don't do nothin for me,

So I go up to that guy in the angel suit
I say "Hey, I ain't lookin for trouble man, I don't mean to be rude,
But don't send me off to Heaven 'cause I really wanna stay
At the Purgatory Cafe."

Now Angel Man, he looks at me, a little annoyed,
He says "You only get to stay if you are gainfully employed,
We need a short-order cook on the graveyard shift.
You do all your own dishes and you get no tips!"

So here I am, baby, day after day,
Flippin devil ham sandwiches and angel food cake
I'm happy as a clam 'cause I get to stay

My entry for 's contest, a tribute to one of my favourite songs ever, "Purgatory Cafe" by Lisa McCormick. I've never drawn the Mr Whites, but I think I did an okay job. The background came out kinda dull though. Oh well.
