I'm planning doing some tutorials soon, I've been asked a lot about this... sooo...
but I can tell you that is just some work with transparencies and gradients and overlapping objects... nothing really different.
ah... for those ornaments, I used blends too... it was a little more complicated to achieve that result.
I'll explain better later, ok?
About the background...
From Corel, you can export the drawing as .psd file, preserving transparencies (a checkbox in the export dialog) and then, open the image in the PS and just save as .png file (is much better than .gif because of the color mode - .png displays much more colors than those 256 from .gif)
You can also export directly from Corel as .png, but you have to set the transparency colors and this way becomes to be much more complicated.

i'm using Illustrator tho.. Corel.. i used to love it!! but Corel pissed me off!! it tends to be unstable and suddenly closed (usually when i try to Convert to Curves some particular fonts or using too much blends, hehehe).. i've lost some of my works because of it (it cannot be opened, even from the Back-up file
