Thanks. As for the transparency lock, it's a way to generously and confidently paint over an existing layer (with a certain pattern) without worrying about it going 'off-course' or outside the line. Meaning, parts that should be transparent will remain transparent, given the properties of the opacity an such. Give it a whirl
