Description
That night was so alive, but so close to the end. The sky glowed a deep amethyst. Through this veil the light of countless stars poured through. Lunos and Heila, the sister moons were both in their full glory. Lunos filled the southern horizon with her pale green aura. Heila sat to the west, barely visible in the purple luminescence. All around were streams of light leaving the planet. The ships were leaving; the streams were their goodbye. No one was staying, except one.For the past year the planet had been collapsing on itself. The tremors were bad now. Time had run out. Everyone left, everyone but he. It was the ultimate self sacrifice and the ultimate self loathing. He volunteered to stay behind. If something went wrong in the evacuation someone on the ground would have to fix the problem.
The ships were away, no malfunction. The last man on the planet volunteered his life as an unneeded safeguard. He paid the highest price for a last glimpse of beauty.
